For my pharmacology class, I had to attend multiple AA sessions. From my experience, in two separate regions, AA replaces the addiction with an addiction to social responsibility and moral responsibility (through a deity). In my honest opin

I see the committee on the horizon. The SOA musings have been spreading like an infection for two years. The erasers being thrown over inheriting a Person that just has a name attribute vs building it right into the supposed child class. I

I feel the same way. This is a display of the veil of ignorance that shrouds war and citizens. US citizens are OK slaughtering 'others' (the faceless and nameless) with drones. When it comes to 'it could be me', it turns

I enjoyed 'hours surfing the internet' for those 'currently looking for a job.' If you have enough time to stay employed and surf the internet: you probably just feel like you're employed to receive a paycheck. Not

This is true. The bank told me that _any_ debit card, if you report fraud within 2 business days, should have zero liability. I have never found a reference for that information. Someone spent $2,000 at Comcast and Neiman Marcus on my card

With the fruitless/mindless attacks from the comments, I can see the crowd is still about the same. Lots of low hanging fruit with a few guys getting rich (like most schemes). It is funny how this business has not changed since 1998. T

"Facebook Ads Are OK, but supporting them on HN is great!" You have just followed suit and created backlinks, conversions, ad views, etc. Don't worry, we all do it! It's the cycle of internet flow these days. I'm wi

Was probably a program running beep codes, haha. I have also had servers executing beep codes that brought great anxiety to me for endless hours. Turns out it was just some debug alert calling the motherboard speaker beep.

For those who don't know, solaris uses tmpfs for /tmp. It is a virtual memory/swap based file system. Anything in /tmp is actually temporary if the machine reboots/powers off.

My advice to everyone: if an altcoin pops up, mine it for a day or two. Place the funds in a private wallet. Backup the wallet on a USB key and two hard drives. Do not access it for 2-3 years. Early on, farming a block takes no effort at al

I also have 'backdoor' symbols in my proprietary code. It is a means to bypass certain functionality in a test environment. The test symbols do not get excluded in the production build due to laziness.

Correct. My computer pulls ~250 watts idling. It can easily go into 750 watts mining with a video card. I would imagine it can pull 320-375 watts at max cpu load.
