When I was a kid my buddy and I built so ething like this with plywood, a dozen garbage bags, about a mile of duct tape and three vacuum cleaners. Mom was not amused when she saw how I I’d cut up her vacuum cleaner hose.

Reading through these is amazing. It’s like an alternate reality... There’s a whole article about whales attacking boats and posing a threat to shipping. My days as a novelist are numbered.

Jacob Fugger might disagree... Still, a very interesting read.

The Tripit one is very problematic. They don’t say that you installed TripIt. I’m supposed to allow any Google third-party access to my email? Even if I didn’t initiate that? Hovering over the “allow” button doesn’t show anything. They need

“Advertising: $15,422.60” I think I’ve found your problem. Your reviews are great. The endorsements are fantastic. I’ve sold over 250,000 self-published books on Amazon and as many traditionally published. However I’ve never paid more than

Germany counts its non-labor workforce very differently than the US. It’s hard to make a comparison (people over 58 aren’t counted, etc.) I don’t know if it’s better or worse, just different. https://www.dw.com/en/debun

The Ford pay thing is poorly understood. The factory had ridiculously high turnover and it severely impacted productivity. Nearly half the $5 wage came from a bonus after a committee visited your home and decided you were living morally acc

I wrote my first novel on my iPad. Got a lit agent a few months later from it. The consumption thing is bogus.

And yet they haven't repeated this with subsequent releases. Why not? I really don't know. My guess is that they think this was a one-time gimmick and not a repeatable model. I could be wrong. I hope I'm wrong.

I think that's a great way to release things. Since so few people release actual numbers, it's hard to know what counts as a success. When they have big ones, like C.K. did, they tend to trumpet them loudly.

Name a comedian who hasn't had this level of big media exposure to capitalize on that's done half as well...

Failure is a subjective term. Radiohead released their next album at a fixed price with a rollout into traditional formats as well.

Maybe I don't get it. I'd like to see your data for point 1. Radiohead decided not to repeat their experiment. As far as an 'inordinate amount of attention', he got buzz because of the model and not the product (which people are happy with)

I don't think it's a tautology. I mention several well-known online personalities that don't have big media exposure and they obviously don't have the same level of success. The formula for C.K. involved major television networks. My point

Before you replace a slave with a machine there are other steps. Indentured servants, share croppers, migrant labor. There is a whole ladder of human exploitation. Ultimately, slavery is a less efficient substitute for free skilled labor
