What good alternatives are there to Google apps? I may hate them for not having support, but because it's such a good product i may be forced to use it.

So the amount of money google needs to pay dedicated support staff to field customer complaints will not be covered by their Google voice revenue. Or they simply don't care and a few numbers falling through the cracks won't hurt their reve

This article doesn't mention what Google will do better than Amazon other than: "The instances boot fast". I don't understand why Google is releasing this cloud offering with the same paradigm as EC2 but as a subset of features. I would t

Yes I was wondering why the author implemented his own queuing mechanism instead of just using hadoop via EMR.

I don't quite understand how the transition happened from no-json support to json support in those slides. How did the plv8js do this searching on fields?

What about using elastic map reduce with spot instances instead of a custom job queue. Hadoop seems to do this for us and supports the arc format as an inputformat.

I guess the professor isn't kidding when he says in the videos. "After you finish this course, you will know as much or more than the silicon valley programmers doing machine learning" The material he presents is quite distilled. He gives

I think it's an interesting idea. Better than a lot I have seen. It is something I can almost see myself using! I think it's an interesting way to see the history of visits to a place!

A coworker set 'tenancy' on EC2 to dedicated not understanding that it meant an extra $10 a hour charge!! The bill came in at a few thousand dollars that month. He contacted AWS and said it was set accidentally. AWS actually refunded the

This is probably the first time I have heard of OrientDB being used in production. It seemed like a unique database but it wasn't backed by a big commercial entity. It is used as the main datastore and the edges cache this data?

That does sound like a good idea! Sounds perfect for S3, can just store the low-res/thumbnails in S3 for browsing via a web page, then retrieve an occasional photo if necessary through glacier.

Wow didn't realize it was that slow. I think you are right, it is for companies who don't mind paying if they have a data loss incident. It does support AWS import/export so one can fedex them harddrives if someone needs the data fast.
