You wasted their time delaying them moving on to someone else. Mission accomplished.

I don't have a specific answer for that but it is really a problem that residential ISPs are going to have to solve now that gigabit or faster symmetric internet connections are becoming the norm.

If someone is reporting malicious traffic coming from the ISP's network then an ISP should be obligated to investigate and shut off the offending customer if necessary until they've resolved the problem.

Not a 100% solution but would help greatly if ISPs: 1) performed egress filtering to prevent spoofing arbitrary source addresses 2) temporarily shut off customers that are sending a large volume of malicious traffic

Installing old versions of Windows doesn't mean you can still access the drivers that were available when the OS was still supported. If you still have the drivers handy - sure. I personally would trust older versions of Linux more th

Oh sure - you could also just run an older kernel that still supports it and take precautions. Linux being open source completely enables that possibility where otherwise you'd be screwed.

Unfortunately, there is no guarantee. If the maintainer for a driver stops maintaining it and no one else steps in to pick up the work then eventually it'll get removed if it isn't widely used.

DJGPP was (is?) such an amazing thing for me. It was the first baby step towards the world of open source and unix-like operating systems.

It's about having a fully supported Windows 11 install vs bypassing the CPU and TPM check the installer does.

I get that security is part of the posturing - I just think it is tone deaf to the reality that not everyone is going to be willing to spend $500-$2000 USD just to be able to "run" Windows 11. I have friends and family that will c

This really just blows my mind that Microsoft believes people are going to throw their perfectly functional laptops/desktops into the trash. All Microsoft has to do to keep people on Windows and in the Microsoft ecosystem would be to

I reached a similar point where I was done dealing with crappy consumer gear but even OpenWRT didn't help my situation much because the hardware I had was just plain bad. That's when I decided to switch to Mikrotik routers and Ubi

I am so glad I stopped using Authy and (painfully via the desktop extension and some hacking to get my TOTP keys) migrated to Aegis. I eventually moved from Aegis to keeping everything in Bitwarden + self-hosted Vaultwarden.

they have a terrible release "process" that seems to not include testing I wouldn't say they have no testing process at all but it seems to me that they lack discipline when it comes to building releases and testing.

Just give users the ability to pin the icons they care about and hide the others in a pop-out panel like Windows does.

I've always joked about the eventual evolution of the GNOME desktop converging to a single login screen followed by a full screen button labeled LOGOFF because they will claim anything else is too confusing for their users.

What benefit is there to me to do so? Why would I want to be locked out of my own PC if I have an extended internet outage and the cached credential expires? What if Microsoft bans my Microsoft account? Note that I also refuse to set up a

I had a similar issue with a Gitea instance that has some public repos. Gitea doesn't follow best practices for a web application and the action to create an archive of a repo is an HTTP GET request instead of an HTTP POST. AI crawle

Yeah, I wonder what the Frontier devs could have done with $500M USD. More than $500M USD and 12+ years of development and the game is still in such a sorry state it barely qualifies as little more than a tech demo.
