I wish they'd combine the relay server functionality into syncthing itself so that it could automatically use peers as relay servers. I'd prefer not to rely on the generosity of others or running the relay server and having to man

I've been using btrfs in non-redundant and "raid1" (really just chunk duplication) setups for a while now. I've not had any major problems in managing the data pools or catastrophic data loss. In fact, btrfs checksums

The sad thing is no one was asking Ubuntu to rebuild all the system dependencies against OpenJDK 8. Developers just wanted the package to be available for installing. The extra icing on the cake? They removed OpenJDK 7 from 16.04 despite

In my mind, a commercial VPS provider has little incentive to perform data mining of a particular customer's traffic vs a residential ISP. Could AWS, Digital Ocean, Linode, <insert other low end hosts> all be trying to? Sure, I

Yep, I pretty much already do exactly that. Cheap VPS provider + VPN for a good fraction of my home network traffic. If my ISP wants to pay me in the form of a discounted price in exchange for my browsing data then I'll reconsider my

Yeah, I honestly thought I had a hardware issue on a computer I built for my son with a 24" 1080p monitor and it turned out to be Windows 10 font rendering changes. I use Ubuntu at work and my other Windows 10 machine has 1920x1200 mon

I don't know why you are getting downvotes. Someone tried to propose a getenv_r implementation for glibc in 2007 and even submitted a patch - which was rejected by a certain someone that is pretty famous for not wanting "bsd crap

Take off the xargs part of the command and run it to see. :-D Just looking at it though, it looks like it'll purge kernel packages that are the currently booted one. I don't have a system handy to check though so take that with

It's really sad to see how far Mozilla has taken Firefox from its roots. Extensions are really the only reason I still continue to use Firefox and now Mozilla has set the date that I'll be moving on to Chrome into stone for me.

Why can't the rust compiler introduce a hidden temporary variable for the let name = jill.name().first_name() example instead of requiring the developer to explicitly declare and use one? Edit: To clarify, I am a Rust neophyte and hav

At first I didn't care much for the idea of having to learn yet another init system but as I had to write ansible automation stuff for services on Centos 7 it was kind of required that I have some basic understanding of systemd. I hav

From my personal experience, not really. The Chrome dev channel is really nothing more than a more recent build that is considered stable enough to release into the wild to those that have opted into it. Things might break but in reality

As far as I can tell it wasn't someone spoofing my email address. Emails were sent to people on my contact list and the numerous bounce messages to contacts that no longer had valid email addresses confirmed the origin of the traffic.
