I agree it’s gotten harder to get by, and that influences cultural malaise and anxiety. I’d like to add that where I am people experience far more political and economic adversity than the USA, yet this doesn’t make them outwardly bitter,

I think it’s deeply cultural. I’m from the USA but live on the other side of the planet. Nobody here is like this, they aren’t angry or bitter, they are generally happy and polite, yet they are on TikTok and Facebook and the same Internet a

My account was randomly locked once too, with no warning or explanation. I went out to eat, tried to pay, and my card was declined. Chase said that there was some system whereby the treasury can just flag/lock accounts, and that they d

This. It’s way more performant too, because you can host DB and other services from the same machine. You don’t need to orchestrate a complex cluster to serve thousands or even millions of users. You can scale to hundreds of gigs of memory

Yes, this is an important point: it matters how new money is created. $100 isn’t created and given to everyone. It’s created and given to the apple producers to make more apples. This is government spending.

Because: 1) taxation destroys money. 2) new money can be absorbed by economic growth. Imagine you have $100 in an economy and 100 apples. $100 is added, so there’s $200/100 apples. Inflation might occur. But if you make 100 more apples

I don’t follow. A property tax is passed to renters. A land value tax would presumably increase the property tax, not lower it. Why would a tax increase on rentals lower rents?

No don’t talk about the elephant in the room (fractional reserve). That is the sacred dogma.

Fractional reserve is inherently financially unstable. Investing deposits while simultaneously promising to pay them on demand is inherently financially unstable. There’s over 100 years repeatedly demonstrating this. Like clockwork, this ex

This statement is confusing. It implies the Fed will guarantee investment accounts. Why keep any money in a non-interest bearing account? It’s amazing the mental and bureaucratic gymnastics needed to avoid admitting that fractional reserve

I've always wondered, could dollars be matched to equity? Imagine a company with three employees earning $100, $200, and $300 per year. Each year the company issues them 100, 200, and 300 shares. Has anyone done this?

Because receiving any kind of asset is a gain. For tax purposes an asset is valued at market or assessed rates depending on the type of asset (real estate, cars, stocks, etc.) It’s tempting to think that we should just tax cash income, but

The censorship model is mostly the same, right? If you don't self-host, your host can censor your communication and refuse to relay or peer certain messages.
