One of my measures of a good programmer, is the ability to grok, debug, and extend code written by someone else, regardless of its perceived quality.

It seems to me the larger issue is most people don’t want to learn, or don’t have the environment conducive to learning. It’s already possible to learn in a self-directed way without a teacher. I didn’t even go to high school, all my higher

You can’t be wrong if you don’t ever believe you’re right :) Maybe.

You’re right. That’s what NixOS is, a Linux distro where all software is managed by Nix, so the users environment is fully compartmentalized, declarative, and reproducible.

Right, but that doesn't change the return. It would only change the amount of money being invested in VC or IPOs versus bonds. And the total money chasing stocks isn't evenly distributed amongst stocks, so less money in the stock

I suspect you're overestimating the impact of bond rates on VC or IPOs. What does the data say? IPOs have declined during a period of low rates, and at first glance there doesn't appear to be any clear correlation between inflatio

Sure, maybe the IPO shares sell for lower with higher rates, which may mean a lower total return for the VC. But to what degree? So the VC get $9 billion instead of $10. It seems to me the only thing that would affect is future fund allocat

Why would bond rates make or break A16Z? A lower interest rate on bonds may mean LPs allocate more money to VC funds, but the bulk of A16Z’s fund is surely not people who will all pull out their money and put it into bonds if rates go up a

You can use ES6 imports for JS and CSS directly in the browser, by including es-module-shims[1]. No need for a package manager, transpiler, or build step. <script type="module"> import Pkg from ' https://site.

I’d say the biggest drawback is performance. Ruby is slow and resource hungry, Rails leans heavily on reflection. Starting a large Rails app can take 10+ seconds (even with bootsnap). Large test suites can become time consuming to run. Heav
