Samsung appliances do this I think? Or some other brand. You basically call a number and then press a button on the appliance and it produces a sound that tells the customer service what's wrong.

It's kinda funny to see this comment - I just sent a long email to someone about simulating terrains/granular materials in the context of robotic space missions and logged in to hackernews only to see this. I'm curious what l

I hate these comments that potray as if every expert/scientist is just good at one thing and aren't particularly great at critical thinking/corporate politics. Heck, there are 700 of them. All different humans, good at someth

Most work visas can be transferred to new companies fairly easily - it's almost trivial. I don't think thats a big deal.

Poe has a reasonably strong user base for two reasons: (i) they allowed customized agents and a store of these agents. (iI) they had access to GPT-32k context length very early, in fact one of the first to have it. Both of these kinda becam

It's clear that Adam himself has a strong conflict of interest too. The GPT store announcement on DevDay pretty much killed his company Poe. And all this started brewing after DevDay announcement. Maybe Sam kept it under the wraps from

It's an experimental model that is trained on a small set of data. It's been out there for months. It wasn't popular because it's pretty much useless.

That was an example, more than 700/770 staff OpenAI has threatened to leave now. Also, just because he is a recent grad doesn't mean he is not top talent. Age matters much less in AI/learning community than other areas.

Adam stands to gain the most from a weakened OpenAPI product. Not from OpenAPI outright stopping commercialization, but stopping it just enough to still have API but not products like GPT store and agents. It's not about Quora, which i

What makes you think it wouldn't change after Sam and Greg join the team? AFAIK the reason Microsoft scaled down their research division (including GPUs) was because they were no where close to OpenAI despite years of investment.

Your comment got me thinking, it's not just all the current access to all the data, weights, and infrastructure they had at OpenAI, it's also everything that will come out of OpenAI in the future. Remember, Microsoft has an exclus

What idea are you talking about? They are not your classic founders coming up with an idea to join Y combinator. They build OpenAI for many years, they know what to do. It won't be hard for them to hire researchers and engineers, from

What's wrong with that statement though? It's the AI era - VCs are going crazy funding AI startups. What makes you think Greg and Sam would have a hard time raising millions/billions and starting a new company in a week if th

It's not just management politics - it's about money and what they want to work on. A lot of researchers like to work on cutting edge stuff, that actually ends up in a product. Part of the reason why so many researchers moved from

Nope, Poe was always building on OpenAI API and their GPTs. In fact Poe was one of the first companies to get access to GPT-4-32k context length a few months ago and they were the first to make it accessible to their users.

You are definitely over estimating how much time and effort it needs to build large models. Sam will get billions of dollars if he starts a new company. So there's no issue of money. In terms of data and training models, look at Anthro
