I just finished building a shell last week for my University operating systems course. It's interesting to see the difference in quality when a person is looking to make a project for themselves that they are writing about vs fulfillin

Looking at the webpage, the high ranking of Svelte seems to be a bit misleading. It seems the percentage is based off (#interested + #number using)/total response. When evaluating the actual numbers: -Svelte has the most people not int

I use BSPWM with different desktop tabs. Is there any difference? Curious to hear as I've never used i3.

I think the use cases for LIDAR in cars are different enough that it would definitely scale up the cost of implementation

Great to see more dev degree info being shared. It has worked well for the students in the program that I know[1]. I think that this framework will be used with other partners at York's Lassonde School of Engineering such as IBM. Hopef

No obligation at all. I think many dev degree students will stay as they have had good experiences (from the friends I have in the program). I assume Shopify is getting the dev degree student's wages subsidized by the government as it

Funny to see this here on the front page of HN! I'm currently enrolled in a university level course in Software Design that uses Eiffel [0]. The Eiffel language makes sense for wanting to translate your design by contact (DbC) logic to

The Lassonde on School of Engineering at York University started eight years ago. Within the last 8 years The Faculty has made major growth and acquired world-class faculty. The school is more than adequate and was named as one of three sch

40000 Canadian per year is correct. You are given vacation days and are expected to work like a salaried employee. Plus they cover the tuition which is approximately 10 thousand a year after fees. Source: Lassonde student (where the dev deg

It's wonderful to see this on the front page. I'm currently a student at the Lassonde School of Engineering at York University studying software engineering and heavily involved in the school community. The Lassonde School of Engi

mDNS is only for local development. You can use a variety of tools such as Consul. Check out micro.mu for more info :)

From my experience with micro, it is pretty easy. You can use the template commands with `micro new user` to make a service and `micro new api --type=api` to create the api. Add a data layer to the User service for persistence. Next, you ca

I think the largest issue is a lack of documentation. Go-Micro is ~5 years old, so definitely not new. Pub Sub works pretty well; check out the PubSub example in micro/examples.

Well, in my experience I was speaking to engineering firms which explained that metrics on their machinery would be visible from hundreds of metres just by looking at the structure. This vastly improves safety as it allows workers to see if

Very happy to see the holo lens improving. I'm hoping this can bring a growth in labour jobs which require technical skill for individuals who do not have any high-level training (e.g. electricians or mechanics). From a safety perspect

With the amount that drones have been increasingly used to carry explosive, I would not be surprised to see these used in a major conflict. Hopefully the technology doesn't fall into the wrong hands, but the risk will remain. Scary to

This look really interesting. I am really happy to see something with great benefit to society in YC. I would suggest looking at Future Agenda [1]. I have worked with them in the university setting and both OWID and FA seem to be in line. [

I am actually a Software Engineering Undergraduate Student in Canada. We are real engineers! We get licenced the same way through graduating from an accredited program, getting the 4 years of experience and writing an ethics exam. In Canada

Anything without engineering. Engineers in Ontario have a licencing like becoming a lawyer or doctor. All people studying in Canada are in programs that are accredited by the CAEB.

On pages 43-44, the author mentions a member of my school's faculty G. Toualakis. The criticisms are valid and his textbook is convoluted. I appreciate the recognition on unnecessary formalism and complexity. For a 1000 level logic cou
