Years ago I had a 2015 MacBook Pro that used to write daily swaps in the terabyte range for about two weeks. Not a single incident but consistently 1-3 tb/day. Performance wasn’t impacted at all and so I only noticed by chance when I l

Is the expectation with the kickbox that you work on your idea in your own time or was there a process to work on it during work hours as well?

Yeah I could only do that because it’s essentially a BYOD setup. Both MacBooks are mine and there is no company MDM involved. Just some software installed & configured by others that would be quite annoying to restore via time machine

Yeah exactly. I had to get my work MacBook repaired a few times last year and since I’m working from home I just mirrored the internal ssd to the t5 and booted from it on my private Mac. This way I kept all the company settings and programs

OT: one of the nice little things with MacBooks is that you have a disk cloning thing built in. It takes literally one step and half an hour to clone my internal 512gb ssd to external Samsung t5 and have it booted up. No problems whatsoever

I’m using a Samsung t5 via usb c on my MacBook and I’d confidently say it’s impossible to accidentally unplug. Not sure if they made the plug like that on purpose or not but it’s definitely harder to remove than most other usb c plugs. Even

But why do you save it in bookmarks? With tabs it’s right there where I left it. Same scroll state, same visual content. Why go through the hassle of bookmarking if tabs are already built in and work well? With bookmarks you lose so much im

Can you tell us a little bit about the technology you use to make the virtual screen work on MacOS? Someone recently posted something requiring an “HDMI dummy plug” (a fake display adapter?) to create a virtual screen. How did you solve it

I am one of those that keeps everything in tabs (currently 856 open tabs in 31 windows on my MacBook) And tabs are imho the perfect abstraction. This is misguided effort. The issue is with the way multiple browser windows are managed. When

Is it possible that the word idleness is meant differently here? It sounds to me as a way to prevent associated societal problems, real or otherwise: criminality, alcohol abuse, homelessness In today’s context we read being idle as leisure

What are the uses of skia wasm then? So far I’ve mostly heard about porting apps that require native skia to the web. But that wouldn’t explain why google spent all that effort building a canvas compatible api and didn’t just stick to the s

Why is wasm necessarily slower than the browser if the browser is already implementing canvas via skia? Just the hardware acceleration? Does that mean only gpu access or something more? Not that that would make much sense. I’ve not been ver

I recently bought a Philips 346b1c (34" UWQHD with built-in USB C hub + KVM) and the use of DDC/CI to tell the monitor what input to switch to could come in super handy here. The display is very good at automatically switching KVM
