Really? I lived in the UK and I quite often take a shortcut through a playground when going for a walk near my parents place. It has never occurred to me that this might be a problem and I've never had so much as a nasty look for doing it.

While that would be very very cool I don't think it would work with the current hardware. It works by projecting a bunch of dots on the scene in IR (so you can't see them) then tracking them with a camera. So multiple Kinects are going to c

The post you replied to seemed to be suggesting a VM written in Javascript. I don't think it's particularly controversial to speculate that the performance of that would be pretty awful :)

First thoughts: yeah yeah 4 weeks isn't that impressive. But then... that included learning to program from scratch?!? Wow.

I dont think the Unity shell and Unity game platform are in any way related. Am i wrong? EDIT: Sorry, I thought I was the only one pointing out the error but looks like I formed part of a mob. Anyway, it's an easy mistake to make, you can h

It seems perfectly reasonable to consider madness when discussing the possible reasons for that speech having been made. It's not like the parent comment is trying to make a counterargument against anything, he's just wondering what's happe

Topics tend to cluster, as a topic is in peoples minds they tend to be more likely to find more articles and post them.

Having a reminder whenever you comment could cut down on thoughtless comments. Everyone makes a bad comment every now and then I think, a little nudge in the other direction could be all that's needed in some cases.

Maybe, it's probably more likely it can boot from a USB CD-ROM than from a USD key. But I have no idea how much more likely. Otherwise, you could maybe try a PCMCIA network card, assuming the laptop supports that.

If it has a USB port you can use either an external CDROM drive or a USB key drive. If it has a network port then you can make a network boot floppy quite easily. This just contains enough to get the system booting off of an image retrieved

Maybe. It would really depend. I'm definitely up for not having to bother with server configuration issues. But I can imagine this not helping that much or introducing extra hassle unless you managed to do it really really well.

Is it not also possible that cats that fall from higher floors are in fact much more likely to die immediately and thus never see a veterinarian and never get included in their statistics. That would suggest that the injuries tend to cluste

Yes, but given that it's a fascinating article written in 2000 and available on the net we can assume a lot of people will have already read it. If you stick (2000) after the title that helps those who have from having to click through. I s

I'm not sure I've ever been at a Music Festival and thought "hey, wish I could interact more with my phone". Maybe that's just me though... Of course there's also the battery and signal issues that would make it useless at any festival I've

I forgot about TCPs use of CRC32. Still, I wonder if the time spent in CRC32 is a noticeable fraction of the total time. I guess it must be in some situations, otherwise why would they put it in the chip...

I just came here to post the same, I think that could actually work. Maybe there's some other value add that could be done that would make it not just a straight "I don't trust your opinion" thing. Like maybe it's useful to have these thing

I think I'm missing the point here, it sounds like what has been banned is the use of non-commercial CC licensed music in places which may qualify as commercial sometimes. That sounds pretty sensible. It's either that or go to each individu

Different plugs will have different fuses appropriate to the type of device. I have no idea how much of a benefit this is but you couldn't do that if the fuses were in the socket.

I believe what he was saying that he hopes it won't be needed in the future. That is he hopes that we will have diversity by default. That doesn't sound like such a bad thing :)
