The mics I mentioned have an internal pre-amp. Sure you can get even louder signal using external one, but they provide enough gain for one person speaking few inches from the mic.

Audio-input-wise, I fail to understand why anyone whose objective is to capture their own voice, would choose a condenser over a dynamic microphone. Dynamic microphone hardly those fan/AC/room nearby phone calls that the author ha

It would have taken less time and money to just sew it by hand. You can use scrap material, or order fabric from ripstopbytheroll.com (a popular supplier for anything MYOG). I buy most of my long distance hiking gear from US cottage shops w

That is why I mentioned that the SHR is not a good test case, it's an outlier - very few people hike it every year, there is really no trail other than where it coincides with the JMT highway. In that case, cairns are nothing but impac

Since my original comment didn't include explanation for why it's a good thing to restore lands back to their pre-bushcrafted state and the fact this very task is done by NPS and USFS, I edited my comment to add that missing info.

And for people who follow the LNT protocol, and perhaps even carry other people trash, the next step I suggest is to destroy bushcrafters' "shelters". They disrupt soil, more often than not made out of live cut trees (and hin

Unless I missed a quick hand maneuver, the storage technique you demonstrate, while result in a neatly coiled cable, doesn't involve a counter clockwise twist for every clockwise one, thus creating tension in the cable. For thin cables

The principle that induce this technique is that every time you create a loop in one direction of a cable, you twist the cable, the exact same twist that would have occurred if you held a cable with both hands and twisted one side (as if yo

"Fun" touchscreen story - I had to file a warranty claim for my not so cheap blender that had mechanical controls. The company replaced it with the newer model, that had, you guessed it - touchscreen control. Not long after that,

Given that I find it natural to use second person (singular) pronoun for the "voice" in my head, I find it weird that only second and third person pronoun (sigular) were part of the research.
