Maybe from a purely semantics standpoint they're not, but from what I've seen they go hand-in-hand. I think if you went around saying you "knew OOP" but didn't know what a factory was, people would look at you funny

I've seen "OOP" defined as "I have a base class and a couple of derived classes", and then I see "OOP" where you have this behemoth of factories, controllers, managers, classes with at least 6 layers of in

On Android, that there hasn't been much love for C/C++ and the NDK is full of interesting pitfalls: Oh your camera gives you NV21 frames, but the hardware VP8 encoder only accepts I420? Makes perfect sense. Oh, we don't actua

I feel like a lot of "Next Big things" incubate for much longer than people realize. It's usually that some technological tipping point is reached where a good-yet-impractical idea suddenly becomes just a practical idea and i

It's funny, when I started I found programming tedious and thought that writing some software with 100 layers of abstractions so computers can talk to other computers was boring and soul-sucking. I liked designing small embedded system
