I agree that CVS wants to stave off Amazon and mail order pharmacies. But a buyout is an expensive way to secure a fraction of the market. Buying Aetna makes it easier to expand the new Minute Clinic business model. CVS no longer has to wor

I see this as a move towards providing cheap basic medical care. This is timely now that it's possible that the individual mandate will be repealed. Millions of uninsured people could be treated for rashes or flus by nurses at CVS chea

Entertaining talk, but the best method is to discard the key for your fully encrypted disk. It's 2017, all your disks use FDE, right?

Reparations are warranted for institutional discrimination, which is unjust and now illegal. It wasn't just loans, but a systemic, society-wide practice of minimizing investment in black neighborhoods, causing (among other things) larg

I think much of the discomfort comes from the fact that white collar crime typically goes unpunished. (How many CEOs went to jail after the financial crisis?) There is the perception, warranted or not, that Shkreli was prosecuted simply bec

I think that they're independent goals. I don't think that competition would guarantee NN. Competition promotes better customer service and faster internet at lower prices, which is also good.

I think that Google has made a fantastic step forward. However, solar and wind require some form of energy storage, such as pumped hydro or batteries (which Google hasn't addressed). Overprovisioning by itself isn't sufficient.

As I recall, Amazon was criticized for being not very profitable (they have a terrible PE ratio). But they were almost always profitable. Uber is being criticized for having massive losses, which is much worse, because it means that they mu

Google's approach subsidizes the additional cost of renewable energy sources over fossil fuels. Because Google sells exactly what they consume, they aren't actually inducing more electricity demand. And even if that was a factor,

Google's report from 2013, cited from their blog, says that they resell electricity at a "slight net loss".[1] I didn't compare to buying RECs. The point is that Google is 100% renewable voluntarily. While RECs may be wo

Great work. Specifically, Google purchases 3 GW of renewable energy and sells it to the grid at a loss.[1] This isn't the same as being directly powered by renewables because they don't have to worry about time shifting supply and
