I don’t think native here refers to the control styling being similar to Win32 on Windows.

A resonable icon format would be a vector file plus (at least optionally) 16 and 32px bitmap images. A 16x16 px icon is still common (eg toolbar buttons at desktop resolutions lower than 4K) and as evident by the article there is no way of

There may be niches where it makes sense already (short haul, long/frequent stops) i.e. city delivery, city buses and similar. But more importantly, whether its greenwashing today doesn't matter. Once it's demonstrably possib

System.Drawing was always just a wrapper for GDI(+), and you CAN use it on Linux via using System.Drawing.Common which is a wrapper for GDI+ (Windows) or something else like libgdi+ on non-windows. It works - but it feels more like a compat

Indeed. Quite often the situation is this: I'm in code that cannot, under any circumstances, be made async. And I need to call an api, that is async and must stay async. So basically: you have to call async from a synchronous context.

"Accept" was used in the loosest sense: We still drive, knowing that it can happen. We might petition for safer roads or stricter alcohol limits, but we don't suggest banning driving.

It's also dangerous to drive on the shoulder. Perhaps the safest thing is to keep going while it's obviusly just highway, perhaps a bit under the speed limit (low enough to get the attention of other drivers but high enough to not

That's not an interesting story though. We always had tired/drunk/reckless drivers, and we accept having death and injury due to those. But we don't accept death/injury due to poor FSD, regardless of whether on aver

Yes - but as we keep repeating - if you do that why would you use null as a possible state to begin with? Not specific to Java, but in general. E.g a boolean in java has two states true/false while a Boolean with capital B has 3 states

Yeah I think if a sign says you can use your contactless credit card or “touch your credit card at the gate” or some language like that, then it should be clear enough. With validity of credit cards being <5 years you’d think we are at 1

I never heard the term EMV either and had to Google it now. I think my point is: for signs, use stupidly simple language, understandable by everyone. These signs are for tourists perhaps more than Londoners. The constant reference to “Oyste

Did the project to add value types to Java (I’m sure I heard of it a decade ago) never finish?

If null and [] should be the same thing then I’d make absolutely sure you can’t represent both. You don’t want two states representing the same thing. That should be easy to ensure if a language is reasonable. E.g a field that can’t be null

Wait, javas Optional is a reference type so it can be null? Doesn’t that almost defeat the purpose of it?

A null collection and an empty collection are two different things. A nullable collection is one that has the state “no collection” semantically separate from “empty collection”. Similarly an Option<byte> has 257 different values whil

There isn’t any big difference between T? And Option<T> semantically. Many code bases use an Option<T> in C# to indicate a 0-or-1 object result, but refactor those to T? instead with nullable. It combines better e.g Option<Op

I’d interpret ”Constactless card” as some form of RF variant of a traditional ticket card. Not as a way of describing your regular visa/mastercard debit/credit cards. Is “contactless card” a normal way of describing a debit/c

Quick iteration perhaps isn't the biggest strength of C++ either. Rust does have some friction when it comes to "I'll try this with a dirty impl and if it flies, then I cam make a clean one later". I guess if that fricti
