According to the article, it wasn't in a case for the first month, but more importantly, the magnitude of the damage is what makes the Samsung assessment remarkably suspect. Certainly seems like a really bad experience with Samsung.

Couldn't agree more. Services like thumbtack and yelp seem to try to get you in the direction of good contractors, but the signal to noise is incredibly high. There seem to be very few reputational penalties for poor performance.

Unquestionably. I started this conversation, I won't let it just hang. There's something seductive about building things that best at lower cost the available best consumption thing. We will find a way!

Very curious. At first glance, it's not clear he's targetting the Wifi 6 (or Wifi 6e) mesh implementations. If he's already running something, he's the place to send collaborators that are interested here. The goal here

On the current place to collaborate, there's actually nothing. And at your suggestion, here's where collaboration can start: https://github.com/pavgup/meshitup/ . Empty repositories are all opportunity. P

Great question. The *WRT (OpenWRT primarily) communities are clearly the winning universe around this and we should take (with generous attribution) what we can from that world, but I've yet to see a real DIY hardware implementation. T

Years ago now, I was building baby monitoring tools, and putting BLE implemnentations into place on ESP8266s might have been worse than smoking cigarettes. I swear, my life was shortened, but I love the idea of device-to-device mesh systems

I'm convinced every side project should lend you awesome learning experiences. Why else would you do it? These specs and the chipsets that are implementing them seem to be deeply maddening, but I bet that's a good thing, right? :)

I'd bet you'd be a fantastic person to lend cycles to keep the guesswork within reason. And if you had cycles to put to the weeds, I doubt an engineer would turn you away. We should get in touch! pavgup at gmail dot com!

I'd love to work with people who want to find ways to build low cost 802.11ax mesh implementations. Think high powered raspberry pis (or their equivalents) being customized to compete with the crazy high costs of Orbi implementations.

Having now joined this list of 20,000 startups to create a Delware C-corp, I can say with certainty, there is a lot of room to improve the process of tracking a company after creation. The path presented by Stripe is almost deceptively easy

So, is this the first bifurcation? OFTC or Libera. Yesterday, I thought it was just Libera.

Pointing the entire community to a new server (ircs://irc.libera.chat/) is going to cause a huge disruption, maybe destroy the community altogether. I can't help but wonder if there's no better way. What a tragedy.

I may be the malcontent, but I'm tired of being at home. I want to keep the option of being at home, but I miss the community I found at work, I miss the non-work adventures our team had, and frankly, I think the new folks joining our

This got me reading. I didn't realize how quickly this change to PulseAudio might be. It looks like Fedora 34 is actively moving to PipeWire as it's new default. I wonder what's preventing Ubuntu from making a bigger change.

I wonder if there's a significant alternative to the current audio system in Ubuntu 20.04 -- PulseAudio+ALSA are awful? For a year now, I've suffered with the most frustrating breakdowns getting sound to pump out of the right inte

I've long hunted for split flap modules on aliexpress and I know folks who buy old train boards to get these modules. I wonder if there's someone out there scaling up the manufacturing? I'd love to buy modules at under the DI

That's totally fair. The title of this post is much more reasonable now. It avoids the argument that HomeKit is open and instead focuses on the cool engineering effort. :)

Honestly, if HomeKit was something that we could use in an operating system that wasn't owned by Apple (~70% of devices on the planet ride Android, to be clear), the title here would feel a little bit more reasonable, but alas, Apple i

I'll bite. I tried to order a Taco Bell bean burrito. Small item, so you can throw stones about that, but here's the price: - $2.03 for the burrito (vs 1.29 in store) - $2.99 for fees and taxes - $3.99 for the delivery fee

As one of the folks that took this course, I was thoroughly engaged. I wouldn't start masquerading as a data scientist after learning this material, but this is a highly-practical approach to deploying new engineering tools.
