Nice solution and good instincts! I bet you’re a pretty advanced user by now. I used to keep an Arch Linux bootable thumb drive around as sort of an insurance policy against things like this. Good reminder for me…

My uncle was in a similar situation: bought a granola bar, price was wrong, free granola bar. He went back a few days later and the price was still wrong. He’s a lawyer, and he sued the store and won (false advertising or something) to get

One time I accidentally overwrote my hard drive with dd while making an installation thumbdrive. While unfortunate, it was only the first 8GB or so. This nuked the partition table, bootloader, and start of the Windows partition, but fortuna

I wonder if there is a version of this that includes domestic cables? Navigational charts generally show them (as well as various "DO NOT ANCHOR" signage denoting them). It would be cool to see what the more "minor" or &

My favorite stove is the MSR Whisperlite. It can burn pretty much anything. It works well from simmering to searing. It's extremely easy to field-clean. My favorite feature is that it has a needle attached to a weight inside the burner

I can't explain authoritatively, as I am several years out of this subject and have never been an expert. But I have a few thoughts that may help you uncover a satisfying answer. The NASA report on Project Highwater[1] might also help.
