It's a metric attribution problem. The real metric should be reduction in homeless, for example (though even that can be gamed through bussing them out, etc-- tactics that unfortunately other cities have adopted). But attributing that

Investors are trying to bet on OpenAI being the first to replace all human skilled labor. Of course, this is foolish for a few reasons: 1. Performance of AI tools improving but marginally so in practice 2. If human labor was replaced, it&#x

They're concentrated there because they've been asked to concentrate there. That can change on a dime. It's not like data centers are mainly in SF.

Yep, pixi is game changing. Especially for AI/ML, the ability to deal with non-python dependencies in nearly as fast a way as `uv` is huge. We have some exciting work leveraging the lower level primatives pixi uses we hope to share mor

Yep. The problem is then leadership sees this and says "oh, we too can expect 10x productivity if everyone uses these tools. We'll force people to use them or else." And guess what happens? Reality doesn't match expectat

Reality: the trump admin has shown that the law doesn't matter in the short term. If they think it's "DEI" they'll find a way to yank funding/make an example out of an organization agreeing to this. Even if the

If humans "generate plausible looking data" despite any processes to ensure data quality they've likely engaged in willful fraud. An LLM doing so needn't even be willful from the author's part. We're going to s

This x100. While I do use AI in (Neo)vim it's not built in and you can take it or leave it. And even when you do choose to use it it's on an as-needed/wanted basis.

What do you get using a GUI frontend? I'm genuinely curious. I have a pretty modern neovim setup and have never missed having a GUI. Heck, on modern terminals there's even pretty great mouse integration if you want.

You do need to justify them to investors. Layoffs are, historically, a sign of weakness and has an effect on growth. Companies need to be strategic with the messaging so as to not scare shareholders. Hence, they use "strategic refocusi

It also means that when the VC money runs dry, it's sustainable to run those models on-device vs. losing money running on those $$$$$ GPUs (or requiring consumers to opt for expensive subscriptions).

Hyperbole of this comment aside, what else do you suggest then? It's a fundamental tradeoff between allowing multiple ways for apps to be installed or forcing everything through a single installation workflow (a la iOS and its App Stor

One important caveat to remember is that this is before a lot of the work on free-threaded python started in full force. A lot of cutting edge work had to be done to support this in the GC but this came with performance penalties. As a re
