Same here! I didn't learn my lesson, of course. The moment we upgraded to a DSL line, I port scanned even more machines, way faster, which led to Qwest shutting down our account, which was only re-enabled after several days worth of

Another important factor is that China's workers make more money than they used to, especially relative to the West. There's not as much of a cheap-labor-arbitrage opportunity as there was in the early 2000s. Here's a chart

I'm not sure I subscribe to this argument given that countries are already polluting massive amounts of CO2 (and SO2, until about five years ago), and nobody seems to be going to war over it. There are massive issues of equity wrapped

Weighing all things, though, is it worse? Would an increase in acid raid outweigh the myriad health concerns over wildfire smoke? I'd rather not pollute the atmosphere on purpose, but I find that there's a moral hazard in not c

1) It's been known since at least 2018 that the sudden reduction in SO2 pollutants has been contributing to a spike in surface warming https://esd.copernicus.org/preprints/esd-2018-83/esd-2018-83... 2) While

I'm asking this honestly and in good faith: When do we start demanding SO2 injection? How much more of this are we going to try to brush off before we decide it's unacceptable?

Yep, almost certainly this. The same thing has been happening every year out west. It sometimes takes a day or more for lightning-caused fires to grow to a size that they can be detected via satellite.

My simple-as-dirt solution is generally to use InfluxDB + Grafana. InfluxDB provides a nice HTTP interface that all of my devices simply POST to. I write all the queries myself, because I find that it's a heck of lot easier than to t

I tend to agree with this take. It's interesting to think about what you could do with an "infinite" screen, especially if it's socially acceptable to wear in a cafe, on a plane, etc.

I wonder if part of his "effectiveness" is that he seems so willing to burn everything down. As long as he preserves this image, he can maintain a level of control that other CEOs can't. Kind of the CEO version of the Madma

I think the world of homebrow eInk devices is set to take off. The problem right now is that while the screens have come down in price considerably, the driver hardware remains expensive and proprietary. If you want to build something for

Maybe it's not a binary choice. Parents can do a better job monitoring their kids and the state can make it mildly harder for kids to spend all day on social media.
