I work as a DS as well. I don't think there's such a thing as "should be paid more" - the market shows us that SWE's are more highly valued presumably because there is more demand for those skills. However, this wil

I think there is just more demand for SWEs. Nearly every company will have software engineers, but not every company has data scientists and even the ones that do will almost certainly have more engineers than data scientists. After all, yo

Pay has a lot to do with it because if you can switch to an engineering role (SWE or Data Engineer) and have more focused responsibilities and a higher salary then that's what most of them will do. Although given the demands made for a

Isn't it a net benefit to everyone if each country pursues its comparative advantage though? I don't see why becoming some sort of Juche state would help anyone.

Don't most wealthy people invest their savings though? So the money is getting used, unless they are just hiding it under their mattress or something.

This is the best online course I've ever done. Not only does it teach you loads, but it teaches you a much greater appreciation of the technology and it's really fun. I realise this sounds like an advert but honestly I cannot reco

In Spain, Amazon is pretty decent. I prefer it for buying general stuff just because the delivery is fast and reliable and they have a good choice of items. For important items though like my monitor, computer components, various electronic

I mean at work you have literally nothing to gain by being honest about your views (it's not a polling booth) and could curry favour by professing the same views as those around you. Therefore, it's not surprising that this tends

I can't help but feel that CEO's are over-valued and it's fundamentally an attribution problem as it's hard to know how much value they actually add. A comparison would be to fund managers and how the rise of index funds

In France that's a reasonable salary for an experienced engineer. I agree it's low for someone running the whole show, but then he is doing it as a non-profit. Tech salaries in the US are really high compared to RoW, even once CoL

I don't support the death penalty because as has been mentioned the justice system is unreliable. But I can understand why some people do when we see so many violent offenders released only to reoffend. If people are going to have fait

This is me. I have Spotify Premium for listening to music while I work but I started listening to podcasts while doing mindless chores like laundry or dishes. It's convenient to just have the one app.

I think it's going to be hard to create regulations for an industry that largely doesn't exist yet, without strangling it at birth. The rules don't really make much sense either: > Social scoring systems, such as those lau

Yeah, I don't think it's a good idea, just that was my limited understanding of what had happened. Honestly, I think we'll only solve it via legalisation as anything else just leaves the money in the hands of the drug cartels

You can usually infer quite a lot from income data anyway given that wealth and income tend to be quite closely related. Obviously, there are exceptions but in general there is a strong correlation. Furthermore, Piketty and other researcher

It's probably due to the issue that Piketty noted in his book, getting reliable and comprehensive data on wealth is far, far harder than doing so for income. I agree with your criticism but it doesn't seem entirely honest when the
