Hey everyone, I’m the developer of Thorium, a little-known bridge simulator that’s primarily used for school field trips out in Utah. I think the time has come for something different though. I call it Thorium Nova. It will be centered arou

Very classy! The interactions are so delightful, and the premise of "serendipitous discoveries through experimentation" is spot on. Well done!

Flac/Opus may have benefits, but I think the Free Music Archive is optimizing for accessibility. Pretty much anybody can play an MP3 out of the box. I don't think one can say the same about Flac/Opus.

This is excellent. I plan on adapting the approach of the fundamentals course for middle school students (you go a little fast in the videos with a lot of assumptions about what your students already know, which is fine). Starting with just

My perspective is that the government can operate that way, but the church seems to be the opposite: socially conservative but fiscally liberal. Hence the emphasis on nuclear families as well as giving freely to the poor.

As a Utahn, the most disappointing thing about this article is the racial homogeny. It's true - nearly everyone is white. But that doesn't mean that there isn't some diversity. When my father was a Mormon bishop, he would dol

I'd have to say Starcraft. The multiplayer mode with super low latency was designed to be run over 56k modems (or less). It's become a case study for the right way to handle realtime gaming networking.

The hipster stack is an interesting one. Elixir + Phoenix framework, GraphQL, React. Honestly, though, I'm doing everything with GraphQL now. It is a huge benefit for all aspects of application stack design now.

I'm operating with Express on one end with React on the other. The big difference with this setup is GraphQL in the middle. It is a huge help to making sense of data flow, what with the strictly typed schema and the built in subscripti
