That's heavily dependent on where you live. We're getting high speed internet pretty much everywhere in France. It's a program full of controversies, but here I am in a 3k inhabitant village with a 10gbps connection for 40€

In fairness EVs still are more expensive than petrol cars. I'm hoping this will change though

Assuming the denser batteries have the same amount of lithium per kg, I don't see how we'll see a halving of lithium demand. That would only be possible under the incorrect assumption that battery demand is static. That's alr

would it be a good things for captchas to be useless? Because in my career I've been a few times on the receiving end of spam attacks and various nastiness and it's nice to be able to integrate such a thing - as unpleasant as it i

I'm hearing both arguments from pretty reasonable people and I can't seem to make up my mind on this issue. Some are saying: yes it's a massive issue, and some are saying nah it's not, I can't seem to find a consist

oh I get that, computing creates heat and we should totally re-use it. But where CPU heat is 1 kWh of electricity = 1kWh of heat, a heat pump will have 1 kWh of electricity = 3 kWh of heat, because it's "sucking" 2kWh of heat

I know it's a joke but running a heat pump will be two to three times more efficient a heating your space.

That's a crazy amount of power, for reference here in France I run my whole house on a 9kW service (9kVA to be precise). That's with a heatpump and everything electric, including an electric car, and running the heating at more th

As an outsider from the hardware world, I find it astounding that it's possible to fix the behaviour a CPU instruction by changing code. (assuming I understand correctly) In my mind a CPU instruction is hardwired on the chip, and it bl

Both were produced because there was money to be made, both have at least some negative effect on society. Granted, the scale of the problems are different, and the axis onto which they act is also different. But I stand by my comparison.

We seem to have the same attitude with all technologies. Be it a social network, a new type of AI, chemicals, fossil fuels or anything else really. First we release the product because we can make money, then problems appear as adoption ram

5 months is nothing, we're still in the infancy of the technology, I think this wasn't a priority until now. Give it a few years, a few research papers and I'm sure someone will figure it out.
