I also heard you can predict criminal tendencies simply from cranial measurements[1]. This guy may be onto something. [1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craniometry

What a... strange set of complaints. It's one of those things that is so fascinating to read because I can't understand what he doesn't understand. I get the part about arrogance and looking down on people with less knowledge or skill. Th

I suppose that's more plausible in the US, with its large number of schools. In Canada, if it's a school I've never heard of, chances are I'd look it up just out of curiosity.

To be fair, if one of my friends fell into a water fountain while texting, I would probably never let them live it down.

But that doesn't disprove the grandparent's post in any way. It doesn't explain why people have trouble working hard or smart enough. It doesn't explain why some (many) people may work hard, or smart, or both, and not get rich. All it re

That seems a bit like begging the question. If you work hard/smart enough, you should be able to be independently wealthy within ten years. Therefore, if you're not independently wealthy within ten years, you didn't work hard/smart enough

I remember seeing some posts on the iphonedevsdk(?) forums promising to get any free app to the top 100 for something on the order of $3000-$5000. I suspect most of those use a few thousand iTunes accounts and automated downloads.

You can expect fairness. You can be disappointed when you don't get it. You shouldn't be surprised when you don't get it.

"Netflix threatens the telecom industry" is true in more ways than one. It's true in the traditional sense of threatening profits and business models. It's also, unfortunately, true in the sense of indirectly threatening the quality of se

Very understandable - the problem is that it's tough, based on a brief post, to judge whether someone is an "alternative medicine" nut, with all the negative baggage that can imply, or someone with genuinely unique insights and experiences

I'm assuming you were downvoted for the vague swipe at "traditional medicine". It can be a touchy subject, because of the large number of crackpots, "vaccines cause autism", etc. To be clear, I suspect no HN readers will claim medicine has

Isn't the motivation "they lie to sell more devices" - which is what your post seems to dance around, without outright saying it? Or am I oversimplifying?

I've often tried to figure out how to write good descriptions for iPhone apps, and I've never really found any good resources. App descriptions seem to be all over the place, but some of the elements in long sales letters seem to make thei

Not to mention that a democratic government, in itself, doesn't guarantee anything - large-scale corruption and incompetence are still a very real possibility. Still, hopefully a step in the right direction - more options are now available

The problem is that openness at the cost of user experience isn't good enough to keep a company alive. Ideally you'd get both, of course; but so far Nokia has been unable to deliver on user experience compared to iPhone and even Android.

I do most of my consulting work at a client's office. They also sublet to a number of small startups, so it's effectively a coworking space as well. I also tend to work from home once or twice a week, especially when the weather's bad - and
