That might be true in the very short term, but in the medium- or long-term, no one actually enjoys working with "fun" people who have zero or negative productivity.

Oh... another pointlessly broken Lifehacker link. Thanks Gawker.

I blocked most Gawker sites from my Google search results, because all the URLs seem to be broken and it takes me a few seconds of staring at a page unrelated to my search before I remember that and hit the back button. I simply don't under

I'm assuming they're looking for web developers - in this context full-stack means someone who's perfectly comfortable with all technologies involved in a web app, from front-end (CSS, JavaScript), to backend (Ruby on Rails, PHP, etc.), to

Thanks, that is very helpful. One more question - you mentioned the Groovy templates are slow, do you mean as in execution time? Have you run into any performance problems?

I'm trying to choose a framework for a new project, and Play! has really caught my eye - I'm not really a Java guy, and the whole "enterprise" mindset is a bit of a turnoff for me, so Play is really tempting. One of the concerns internally

Want the t-shirt from the 2007 company picnic? You had to be there to get one. T-shirts as badges, or achievements (as in gaming). Never thought of it that way.

Yes and no... just as a single data point, my behavior tends to be to look for the "popular" technical references and choose from those. If a book has a small number of excellent reviews, I probably won't choose that over a book with a lar

Pricing is an important factor in a purchase decision, so shouldn't it be a valid factor in a review? A 1-star review saying it's completely overpriced, while not perfect, is still better than reviews I see in the app store like "Amazing ap

I haven't watched the whole thing yet, seems like a good talk. The crucial sentence so far seems to be at 28:12: "When people say why did you go Microsoft and not Android, the fundamental reason was because we believe we can maintain subst

I applied, out of curiosity, but I have to say I'm a bit apprehensive about an invite-only community. The insistence on having a Gravatar almost feels cultish.

I was going to say something very similar. I've been irritated by repetitive content / themes, but a lot of that is simply because I've read it many times before - it's not necessarily a sign that the community is getting stale, it just me

Toronto - Senior Java/MySQL Developer. You'd be working as part of a small team on a very successful, high-traffic API - I suspect the type of position many HNers would enjoy. http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/sof/2284072232.html Edit:

I'm not arguing that - Twitter has grown much more than I expected. I was referring to the "I'm sure they know things us mere mortals are not privy to" argument.

After a bubble bursts, the pendulum tends to swing the other way, towards extreme thrift, caution, and near-paranoia - it affects spending as well as investment. The over-correction can hurt everyone.
