That subreddit's a mixed bag from what I remember. I think there's a core of "true" antiworkers that are genuinely against the idea of working (categorically? within capitalism?) in some deep philosophical sense, but I t

True that compilers, tests, and QAing are nice protections that we get with code but not books (well sorta... books can still be alpha/beta-tested in the sense of having some people read them and share their thoughts). So yeah, not lit

Yeah, IMO this is like a publisher saying "we don't have editors: we trust our authors". The intended ethos of editors and code review is that mistakes and imperfections are the norm, and you need a second pair of eyes to iro

I admit I'm somewhat pre-inclined to defend Google here a bit. That said: I wonder how much of this is an issue of the incentives for producing different kinds of content, as opposed to just an issue of what Google chooses to optimize

I mean I also wouldn't say I hate people though. Just because something requires energy from me doesn't mean I hate it.

I think at a certain size though a large enough company starts to approximate a conglomerate of smaller companies. Sure, maybe you can't change the entire company, but you could change your smaller org.

Not denying this but 0.02: after working for Google and another "big" company (>5k employees) and two small (<50) companies, I was much happier at the big companies.

Is there a particular place you recommend moving to for being in-office? Or you just mean your options open up a lot in general when you're willing to move?

Naively, this actually really surprises me. My sense of French working culture is that it's very much "live to work", very strong WLB. What's driving France to be more pro-office than more "work-focused" countr

I've never been too interested in working for HFT/traditional finance, but depending on how office trends continue I might change my mind (especially living in NYC, though I'm also considering moving).

Not knocking what works for anyone else, but for me this really doesn't at all address the "working remotely" issue. Working around a bunch of strangers is better than being alone in my apartment all day, a bit better still i

Not exactly an answer but I think I've definitely been in a kind of spiritual crisis for a lot of my late-twenties, maybe longer, ever since I stopped being Christian, and am struggling to find some kind of spiritual anchor. To the ext

Lines of code != difficulty. There's tons and tons of different possible <20 line implementations for creating a directory + parents, many of which likely have subtle (or not-so-subtle) bugs.
