Just worked for me after the redirection, but it's super slow. Still downloading, I am at 210 MB, at a rate of around 190 kB/s... Direct ZIP download link = https://web.archive.org/web/20210418214109if_/h

... being an ham radio operator, I was hoping to see a shortwave-to-snailmail gateway... or maybe some historical information about some shortwave telegraphy system used somewhere in the past century to send actual mail from abroad...

Sure, but keeping logs for legal reasons doesn't mean transmitting those logs to all the web sites you visit. I think the point here was untrackability by websites rather than pure anonymity.

How huge? Aviation uses HF (shortwaves) and not VLF as a backup for translatlantic flights (see for example https://thepointsguy.com/guide/how-pilots-communicate-with-a... ). HF antennas can already look huge ;-)

As a native Italian speaker I think that the tradition is safe from AI for now... Uussimanto or Dantentandim doesn't quite sound like Italian ;) And there might be a bit too many "Effusione" names :)

not sure it's just a throughput question... the thing is, there's only a single PCIe lane exposed, and multiplexing it to multiple devices (i.e. a SATA controller plus a USB3 controller) requires more electronics, and of course th

Why should it be JavaScript? If we generalize to other languages, Qt does it very well in C++. You might like Qt or not (I'm not a big fan, but heavily prefer it over Electron), but it definitely does the job using much less resources

There are comments elsewhere in the thread about this, but storage is not the only thing in play here: bandwidth (even in modern countries some rural places have very slow connections), energy use (it takes proportionally more electricity t

A bit off topic (not related to street design in any way): to me the "interface designed by engineers" looks much better than the one made by UX designers. Ok, it doesn't actually _look_ better from a purely aesthetical point

In Switzerland, public radio & TV are funded by a tax every household pays, whether you have a TV/radio or not (note that the websites of public TV & radio use quite some trackers... but are ad free; the TV is NOT ad free thoug

Windows also uses it for metadata, e.g. if you edit the "Comment" of a DLL file. The problem with NTFS alternate streams it's that they are very easy to find if you know what you're looking for. It might be better to hid

Yes they still do, at least for floating licenses, I'm running a FlexLM server for our lab with several Autodesk floating licenses on it. MATLAB also uses it, and so do many others scientific software packages (e.g., ANSYS).

Same for me. I prefer buying FLACs (or actual CDs) of the music I want to have and keep it on my devices, so there's no future risk of losing it (I do have backup). Plus, streaming requires a working connection, uses more energy, etc..

Or have JavaScript removing nodes from DOM after they are actually there... might require some attempts with Reader Mode and reloads (as it's timing dependent) but it's worth a try if you want to read a specific article.

Read receipt pixel/trackers can't prove something has been read. Thunderbird for example doesn't load remote images by default, by design, as they can be used for tracking purposes (including by spammers).
