No they're in the wrong. They didn't test adequately, regardless of their motive for not doing so. Obviously reality is not backing up your theory there

Good for the kid getting her hands dirty! I was learning C by the time I was 9, but if HTML and the public Internet had been around when I was that age, I may have went that way instead!

I've actually been thinking about this quite a bit. I remember a foray into prolog when I was a younger pup in 2004-6. With the Advent of llms, I think that perhaps we could use llms to extract triples from large corpuses of text and t

This reminds me a little of Jeff Hawkins book, 1000 brain theory. His company numenta has done this kind of research and they have a mailing list. I'm not an expert but I've read Jeff's book and noodled at the mailing list

If there was legal liability for user comments, this site right here couldn't host a comment section. And you'd have to use a publisher to complain about how hard it is to be a publisher

on the advanced search, there's still the option to specify that it 'must contain' something, but I'm not sure if it's just a suggestion like quotes or not.

Personally, as a developer who has been doing this for more than 25 years, I am excited, enthralled, and chomping at the bit to see what's next. Every day is like christmas, and I'm not even kidding. I have been having the mental

You can draw a whole span or div that is invisible with fonts in it and everything off screen measure it. Delete it or then show it or move it or whatever. But I've done this before with JavaScript.

You can actually still do it. Just don't measure until after the fonts and elements are in place. dynamically adjust the position afterward. There is no rule that says you must use only CSS

Yes CSS is hard, yes declaratively anticipating all the various types of media you may display on and their relative interaction is a nightmare of variables. BUT, that is enough to justify the inversion from using declarative markup to actu

Einstein didn't say that about insanity, but... systems exist and are consistently described by particular equations at particular scales. Sure we can say everything is quantum mechanics, even classical physics can technically be trans

This tool is my daily driver for all database stuff I touch. My only complaint is that the update dialog is quite a noisy nag. But that's not a real problem.

I love stuff like this. Once upon a time I thought I'd get more into hacking like this and started working on it... But then I changed jobs and never got back. This made me remember all those games of capture the flag in the 90s.

This is fascinating and inspiring progress! What's crazy to me is how many people are looking to put stakes in the ground in front of this, claiming breathlessly before anyone can speak, that this isn't real AI progress or this is

I still don't get it. Why are they upset? Nothing has been taken from them. There is no alternative in midjourney that sates anyone's desire to read their comic. Just as many people are going to visit the page for the comic, if no

Eliza's meant to us to be an illustration of the problem. In good old fashioned AI sentiment, it illustrates the fact that you need another if statement for every new kind of construct you want to simulate. But you deign to simulate ea

I was following the mailing list as this was being developed way back then, but it always frustrated me that the team chose such a trite, un-googleable name for the language. I mean, if you want to find the community and the docs, you have

I thoroughly enjoyed that story. I know it's a BBC patriotic puff piece a little but the tech tricks they did were neat. I hadn't heard of Elite at all and that's too bad because it would have been right up my alley back then

So if there is some fringe element who's willing to use AI as a terrorist implement, they'll have very little competition and they'll be very little knowledge about how to counter them if we try to outlaw open source models.

I live in rural western pa. There are no charging stations. Simple answer here: I'm not buying an EV then. Charging at home is not enough.
