I don't need electricity to enter my house. Anyway, I was talking about full control, not basic services. Of course I can't do everything alone, being forcibly closed out of my house is clearly another issue.

I'm much more educated than my parents and I make much less than them. Higher education is appealing no more, on average.

I would not ever give full control "of my house" to a corporation, small or big doesn't matter. It's just insane, imho.

I think these comparisons are a bit silly, it really depends what you are doing for each request. Are you just proxying, message brokering or querying a database? It makes a lot of difference

I have a still working 2010 Acer 4810TG upgraded with a SSD and 8GB RAM, I use it to play very old games and a little of Internet browsing, for that it still works.

Things are not carved in stone, we had to change the OS and something quite unforeseeable for a RDBSM happened. Imho DBMS should be a sort of self sufficient OS in itself.

Am I? An OS without apps is really useful? What's linux kernel without gnu tools?

Laziness. Too few would want to host and manage forums, mail server... anymore. Big companies made email server hosting more and more difficult and too few raised their voices. Cloud centralized services were just too convenient.

How can you call Android an open source mobile OS anymore given even these basic functions will be dropped?

We had issues with postgres on x64 when changing underlying OS, maybe you didn't have to. Can you encrypt columns or compress data with vanilla postgresql? Why not? Postgresql is REALLY great, PostGis is awesome, it's not perfect

Pgsql is great in many ways, but not really superior to sql server, it really depends on what you need, e.g. columb encryption, data compression etc. We had indexing issues on postgres changing underlying OS bc postgres uses a lot of C libr

I think market should decide if it's useless, not government rule. I would never buy a car without trying it first. Italian dealers may take care of your old car, if you have one and don't want to sell it by yourself.
