I find Tao's writing on this very helpful, particularly because a lot of the ideas generalise to most knowledge work. It is darkly fortunate that some of the smartest and most articulate people on the planet are affected by the AI race

Again - true now, but not certain to be so in the near future - which (I speculate) is part of the investment case for mistral.

I'd be curious as to how correlated development on these frameworks (ai or otherwise) is correlated with the market cycle. It seems during bull runs would be traders think they have some edge - whereas they're probably all just bu

That's true now, but given the strategic importance of AI to nation states and the fractious relationship many have with China, I wouldn't expect the eagerness to use Chinese AI to continue indefinitely.

That may be true, but there's a non zero chance that frontier AI becomes a controlled export, and that 'local' production becomes a prudent play.

What do you think it might take to precipitate collective action in this case?

The hubris here is itself a deliberate and carefully engineered posture. If we accept the stance that this is all inevitable then the labs drive the agenda (of course, in their favour). We've had a lot of years of complacent government

Does anyone even review these blog posts before they get published? If nobody in the company can be bothered to review it, I don't know why they expect anyone to persevere with the AIphorisms

You describe the apps as though they are recreational drugs with no other purpose but to produce endorphins. These 'apps' have a high level of utility - which is, I imagine, why most start to use them in the first place.

Peppermint group N=20. Mkay. 2 of those lost to followup, one because they didn't like the taste (control group got peppermint cordial). The result might be real but needs followup before we all starting gulping down peppermint oil.

If heroin was free, nobody would be breaking into cars but there'd still be a problem. I think we're missing the point debating addictiveness. meta very deliberately use patterns that result in compulsive usage - and at the scale

I couldn't get past the first chart which basically showed that intelligence and cost are both better for gpt luna, I'm not sure what the argument is here for Gemini flash 3.7 given that comparison.

Presumably the frontier labs themselves can do their own distillation far better than the chinese labs can. Why can't they just beat them at their own game and release / host low cost intelligence and own the whole game. There wil

> Every business wants you to be addicted to their products It simply isn't true a) that businesses are all as unscrupulous as digital media platforms and b) that most products even have potential to be addictive. It's certainl

The one that does my head in is everything being a 'gate' where really it means a condition. RLHF seems to incentivise analogy-like terms to the more plain alternatives.

The point is that - unrestricted - digital media maximises for time and attention. Given that incentive, addictive behaviours are not only inevitable, but an ideal outcome financially. It's easy to say that it's absurd, but what w

It's really good, love it! My vote would be no countdown, but you could have a hidden timer and use that for ranking at the end, so that there's still and incentive to think fast. If you can have infinite time on each turn, then I

100% I'm not sure when all this mission nonsense came in, but it's daft when you see it parroted around something as beige as SaaS. It's fine to want to make something good and make some money from it, but you don't hav
