My thoughts exactly, that's not what a CFO does. They'll add the numbers up at the end of the quarter, but they don't make the decisions on how money is spent or earned.

We agree. I used pretend and imaginary as words to describe things being not inherently true. Like there isn't some inherent reason that we can infer from the laws of the universe that driving on the right or left hand side of the road

I used matrix math as a hand wavey example of how one might purely numerically describe the angles in a structure. What don't we understand? We know the forces of all the atoms that act on each other, what is the mystery at this point

Sure. Thinking that frequencies picked up by your ears has any sort of 1:1 correspondence or influence with the irrelevant overall firing frequency distribution of your brain is like thinking that adjusting the speed of your washing machine

We absolutely understand protein folding. The fact there isn't a closed form simple solution to tell us the shape of a protein shouldn't be surprising at all. It's just hard to calculate. It's like the 3 body problem, bu

Of course it's considered acceptable, lead doesn't just dissolve when you touch it and it's not like the paint is 100% lead. Our bodies are pretty resilient and you shouldn't be scared of super tiny trace things in the e

There's no way we'd be able to use Linux. We might be able to make it work, but we'd be then kissing vendor support goodbye. That's suicide.

I think you're misinterpreting that phrase. Things like social constructs, money, borders, "us vs them", political parties, the belief that everything is going to be ok, "a career", manners, traditions, language, et

This is just patently false. The company I work for, roughly 200 people, spends roughly $10k/month on software. Personally, I spend maybe $50/month.

That's what you think nationalism is? You're using that term pretty loosely. Why don't we call it racist while we're at it as well? It's possible to celebrate countries coming together without the basement rhetoric.

LOL. I love me some puzzle games but find Mastermind and Wordle equally boring. Mastermind was fun as a kid but once you learn the algorithm, it's just a chore.

What's with the Wordle obsession? Why is everyone so into this? I don't understand why this is sweeping the fucking nation right now.

It's really a new paradigm in compression, imo. For example with a video conference, rather than trying to compress the pixel data and put it back together accurately, you can just send pose and gaze data and recreate a "fake&quot
