Written by one of weev’s lawyers. Weev, the absolute cyber-douche who threatened Kathy Sierra’s family and precipitated her years-long avoidance of Internet and speaking appearances. Who absoutely deserves punishment. If the “crackdown on

They are not redundant. Any string of one or more exes is going to constrain a substring of exes of length 2^n (consider n=0 for a trivial proof), so you do need those anchors!

I’m not arguing “against English” or “against HN;” I’m arguing against diluting the power of one specific word. You are, of course, free to disagree.

Yes! True. And it’s easy to do this with Sass (here, shown in SCSS syntax): .my-class { font-weight: bold; // use "placeholder selector": & > .other-class { // selector compiles to

Yes. This should be the top-voted comment, IMHO. Myth is fairly misleading!

I know 90%+ of the HN crowd sides, with good reason, against Elsevier, but I’d like us to not use the word “war” unless there is mutual, systematic murder between enemies. War is a terrible thing. We shouldn’t water down our only real word

In a weird way, it would seem that every song on RapGenius starts off nearly naked of annotation, and — it would seem — essentially illegal, but may end up heavily annotated and “transformative.” You can’t start at the end, though. One is r

iOS devs, please submit radars to Apple for iOS support without jailbreak. (IDGAF whether it’s native or third-party support for changing the whitepoint, I just don’t want my phone to blind me at night.)

My own SMBC (non-?)coincidence was finding out that a former classmate (from my tiny high school in rural Pennsylvania) is part of SMBC Theater (in LA). Very cool. Apologies for being so tangential here.

I remember PC World started doing this back in like 2003. Makes sense, I think. But how are you solving the problem any better than a reader can armed with (1) the date on your cover, (2) the original URL, and (3) the Internet Archive Wayba

Our relatively simple Angular app was regularly consuming 100% CPU for literal minutes and ate up 600MB of RAM until we dramatically reduced not-actually-that-crazy number of API calls we made on load (from less than 100, mostly prefetching
