If removing the battery requires an electrical current, it wouldn't be surprising if, in the future, Apple adds another layer of control, like requiring a digital signature to authorize battery removal

it does ask for permission, but a malicious website could ask it for a valid reason and then brick it, yup. On the other side, a controller should not be brickable via HID commands...

Few years ago I bought a 12V led strip from aliexpress, it came with a usb charger. A "12V" USB charger. You can easily guess who put it near other chargers by mistake and then fried a PS4 controller trying to charge it with that
