Fair enough, thanks for explaining that. Seems like the EC2-like route makes the most sense if you're most budget and manpower constrained, even though the performance will be comparatively pretty abysmal.

Thoroughly enjoying your book, thanks for writing it! It was also great to get a DRM-free copy through O'Reilly. Please write more :)

Argh, that's too bad, thanks for letting me know. Perhaps something along the lines of Heroku's Postgres hosting would be good?

Is there a SKU for more disk-heavy workloads like a box running Postgres? I'd love to be able to get more disk space (especially since you guys have SSDs, this will make PG very happy) without the extra CPU and memory. Is that currentl

Font Awesome is a real godsend when looking for simple and effective icons. It's neat to have most of what you need icon-wise all in one place.

Would do anything for an affordable ultra high resolution 24" or 30" monitor for development. Think of all the tmux and vim panes you can cram into one of these puppies :)

A MS in CS doesn't give you much useful hands-on knowledge that'd be immediately applicable at your day to day job in the corporate world. I'd look into a MS in Software Engineering, like the one CMU offers, if you're more interested in pra

1) Nitpick about 11 months vs 12 months. Are you adding any value to the conversation? 2) The author being on Twitter doesn't affect the 31 outstanding pull requests and the 52 issues filed against the GitHub repository. Again, I'm not clea

Aren't these guys positioning themselves as being more lightweight? Bootstrap can be pretty rough on mobile devices in certain situations.

One thing to keep in mind is that Skeleton has not seen a single commit in the past year, so it's not clear if the framework is going to be supported long-term. It's probably better as a blueprint for one's own homebrew minimalistic CSS fra

I wonder if shared office spaces with hundreds of teams in them, a very popular startup location these days, is perhaps the worst of the breed. Half a dozen teams talking to each other, multiple people on the phone, people having lunch behi

As an interesting example, the people in charge at Facebook seem to be well aware of the downsides of open plan offices. They however consciously choose to lower engineer productivity in exchange for higher openness and visibility. It's ac

What exactly are you hoping to find? As always there are limitless awful positions with either poor pay and/or poor hours and/or no opportunity for learning, and very few positions that have all of above. Even if you stumble upon one, you'l

Any chance you could at least outline what you think the biggest changes in the past year and a half have been, for those of us who read the book? What are the things you would have written about differently?

Same here, I love re-visiting old titles. Even dead-ish MMOs these days, such as Everquest, have 3rd party servers that still let you play something similar to the original game.
