It pains me to say this, but when I was working with Oracle, its partitioning support was miles ahead of postgres (though not perfect by any stretch of the imagination).

Have you tried runit? If so, could you tell me how it differs from s6? I like runit, but if it's better, it's better.

I concur, runit absolutely rocks. Haven't tried systemd yet, I wonder if the two play nice together (if they don't, it won't be runits' fault, that's for sure).

I have a vague notion of what you mean but could you annotate that with an example or something, please? I'd like to make sure :).

Oh man! I only wrote one program ever that could be used for malicious intent if so desired, and that was a GetAsyncKeyState()-based keylogger. Simple to write and so cool. The toughest part was figuring out how to register itself as a wind

I can barely imagine a more fitting love sonnet for good old (modern) C99/11. My eyes, dear $deity my eyes. I'm sure OP is a fantastic(ally) smart dev but I'm kind of glad I don't have to work with that.

Both are immensely awesome codebases, but the level-up is perhaps a bit too steep. Going from delightful ANSI C (vanilla Lua) to a lot of assembly + C (LuaJIT's interpreter) and runtime assembly generation (the JIT) is no slight task.

I haven't found anything that beats the ease of use of LuaDNS [1] though. Edit a simple lua script, git push and done! [1] http://www.luadns.com/

I really like this, when I'm done with trying to create a JIT compiler I think I'll move on to building a mini-OS in my spare time. I'm sure this combined with this [1] will be a great course unto itself. [1] http:/

This made me think of clang/gcc's vector extensions [1], which, together with __builtin_shuffle can be used to get some real "ok" cross-platform (SSE/NEON/...) SIMD code going on. An example of this in usage is

Even though I like clojure and think it's cool, I don't think VimL needs another layer that slows it down. I'm putting my money on the VimL to Lua translator that's currently being worked on by ZyX-l ( https://

Wow, from glancing at the description it sounds really good. I hope you guys can pull it off! Something like this would be almost as "freeing" to me as starting to use git in the first place was.

I agree! Overall I truly prefer git subtree over submodules. I've noticed that most devs seem to have strong opinions one way or another. Perhaps git subtree just seems so good because submodules are so clunky. If only someone would in

You mean so you can distribute a standalone binary that is actually just a bunch of lua? Do you do this so that the users have a harder time modifying the code (just curious)? I'm supposing that this is the case otherwise it would work

Just a small question: __m128i c = _mm_set1_epi16(2) __attribute__((aligned(16))); Don't gcc/clang take care of aligning that type automatically? Isn't the attribute thus redundant?
