How's that different to what Madoff was doing? You put money in a pot, you get interest from people putting money, until your deposits vanish. If Madoff would also run an exchange that first converted USD into monopoly tokens and paid

This is probably the biggest achievement of AI to date. I'm surprised DeepMind isn't playing the game of financial markets yet.

I don't believe any of those apply to this library. But indeed those were the issues with Backbone at the time. Check out an example app: https://github.com/akrymski/espresso.js/tree/master/examples

It was 10 years ago, as was Backbone and many others. IMHO X is an alternative to React if you can build a web app with X. Sometimes less is more. Some people prefer vanilla JS or a lightweight library to a huge framework with an "eco

Few interesting ideas: - Clear separation between HTML markup and code, the DOM is static and is not generated by createElement(..) - No virtual DOM or HTML diffing: every component has an internal state and updates the corresponding DOM at

I've used this approach in my minimal MVC lib for over a decade, simply using hidden elements instead of templates http://krymski.com/espresso.js/

Indeed RDS was never designed to be "re-sold", and assuming that a single PG instance will handle lots of different users is naive. Turns out if you're aiming to be an infra provider, building your own infra is the way to go

Caching at the edge could be done by an API gateway or nginx. Geo aware SQL DB sounds like a lot of added complexity. What is the latency trade off in practice? 100ms ping time is probably small compared to query execution time, especiall

Do most web apps need edge compute? Don't most backends talk to a central DB server anyway? Unless data is geographically sharded as well, is there really a benefit? Collaborative apps perhaps?

I don't agree. Extra layers of abstraction like Prisma / ORMs only add complexity. Sure it means you don't have to learn SQL at all, and that's really the only advantage. But time spent learning an API/ORM is bett

You should be able to achieve a 10X improvement in speed just with good query and schema design, but ultimately everything depends on your data layout. Avoid ORMs, GraphQL etc - write raw SQL specific to the views that your clients need, if

Indeed, there was tonnes of n-tier architecture stuff in Java EE land in the 90s. SOAP - Service Orchestration and Automation was/is another concept from the 90s that is conceptually similar to GraphQL. I don't like the terms fro

Number of queries is not the problem, it's the total query time for the frontend that you're ultimately concerned with. An API is designed to aggregate and format data from various data-sources. The speed of your REST API will ul

Indeed in most cases replacing simple code with GraphQL only adds complexity. The old approach has been more like this: [client] <- RESTful request -> [your API] <- Your data fetching logic -> [DB] <- SQL query (with para

While Figma is a great vector tool it doesn't hold a candle to Photoshop when it comes to image editing. There's a reason photographers use Photoshop for retouching photos.
