Finally someone who gets it. "Tech startup" has become a term that gets thrown around way too much. Let's face the facts - every business utilizes technology in this day and age. Is ToysRUs (toys) a tech company? Or Airbnb (real estate)

Thanks for the downvotes ;) Its a classical greek tragedy - hubris in action. When you think your launch will be as big as Instagram and Zuckerberg will take you out to lunch next week you're destined to loose faith and self-esteem post la

I'm sure quite EveryMe was in beta for a while. PG and most others tell you to launch "too early" for a reason. Waiting around until you feel "100% sure" is like Steve Jobs giving out the iPhone to everyone he meets before launch :)

The post is about the launch of EveryMe, not the social network for families. EveryMe is a general purpose group messaging platform, and like WhatsApp/Kik/etc probably needs network effects I'd have thought.

Oliver, to me the post reads as "we've launched with lots of PR but failed to get the traction we were hoping for, so don't bother with PR". It borders on blaming the press for lack of market fit. I'm not saying the world doesn't need a so

You can't ever be 100% sure you have a valid product before launch. Especially with something that needs network effects to work. Just launch it and see if it sticks. I don't think the vision was clouded by the big launch, only the dream

A press mention always leads to a spike in traffic / sign-ups. This shouldn't be surprising. I was one of those people who tried EveryMe when it came out. I simply didn't see what problem it was solving. It was overhyped and not very us

I'm afraid bitcoin will always be too volatile to be used as a currency because it's not backed by anything, and can't be inflated/deflated. The government actually serves a useful function by controlling money in circulation, even though

Congrats on launching! We've had to build a lot of this ourselves internally, and all the time were thinking if there's value in it for others. This is a very interesting space indeed and I do believe that it's the future. The real quest

so bots can sign up easily: while (true) { hoodie.account.signUp(_.uniqueId() + '@gmail.com', _.uniqueId()) } great effort though, but I still don't think you've got client/server separation right. we've built something very similar over

I've always thought that a spreadsheet/db hybrid would be an interesting idea for a startup, but surprisingly none of them ever took off: DabbleDB had a great UI http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Database/Dabble-DB-Bridges-Database... http://www.

Thank you Heather! I could never be bothered to remember the commands for the swiss knife that is sed to do something as simple as this. Why I love this: - js syntax for regular expressions is what I'm most familiar with - defaultignore i

Thats great! What features in particular excite you? As a personal user my guess is you don't care much about collaboration, but more about security & mobile access?

you could have just asked :) see the post below - it outlines the libs used, the rest probably aren't the best choices anyhow, took 2 days to put this together so it's hardly an example to follow :)

It's an mvp at this stage, if we introduce paid plans we'll stick around :) For now we're using it ourselves if that's any consolation

Thanks, we've built it for ourselves and wanted to see if anyone else would be interested first. Would happily add accounts and charge a small subscription fee for it. How many dollars per month would it be worth to you?)

the URL is random so it's harder to crack than a password, but you're right - we'll be adding proper 'accounts' later, and some more features if necessary - it's an MVP at this stage.

thanks for the comment! You don't need to go anywhere - it creates a random URL for you so you can just edit the wiki and bookmark it. At this point its an MVP - if people like it we'll add more features :)
