I've wanted an HRV/ERV system for a long time, but have been wondering about best practices with the intakes. One in each room? In the ceiling, if our furnace outputs are in the floor? The new ducting network seems like the hardes

Important downside of replicator technology that it's not likely to be physically possible outside of TV. Otherwise I agree it's superior to microwaves (though curious about its techno-economics).

Oh yea, but funny enough a lot of the critiques were shared via the internal version of Google+ since people actually took the time to write things and it had a pretty good UX. I don't think it's a great comparison to Meta ... thi

It's an apt comparison, and obviously there has been movement (eg the EU) to push them onto usb, but I think cars are a slightly different context than laptops/phones where there us much more of a social incentive to standardize e

Yes there is - because their proprietary (until today) plug is not the industry standard.

Doesn't really matter even if it's slightly technically better. We are WAY too late in the game here (US is already deploying federal funds!), and they should have engaged with open standards a decade ago.

Tesla is at least 5 years late here, maybe more like 10. All of the US federal funds will likely go to CCS now because they stuck to the proprietary network strategy, despite the OBVIOUS and natural social utility from an open industry-wide

Ask anyone deep in the wind or RE development industry! It does matter, because policymakers (at least in the US) have decided it matters though law, regulation, and treaty. It doesn't ultimately matter (practically) if policy doesn&#x

For more context about my 'metadata' comment, there is the PNG metadata (should be easy to check) but there is also the watermark in the bottom right. Here is a reddit thread (one of many) investigating the watermark, seems to con

I had this exact idea, so glad it exists :) Adding model provenance would be a good idea so you can support multiple. I was wondering if DALLE 2 embeds any metadata in the images but haven't had a chance to investigate. I also think yo

There is the dystopian version of always connected, but it'd be nice to get firmware updates (supposing those updates mainly fix bugs, add features, improve performance).

Totally - not all nuanced arguments are emotive at root. I think HN is at it's best when the discussion is evidence-oriented.

That's fair. It's definitely fashionable to be hyperbolic. But it might also be wrong to interpret those statements literally or at face-value. See Emotivism: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emotivism That is t

I think I'd rather see short, strident statements of opinion than multi-paragraphed 'reasoned' arguments that are essentially the same thing but with different aesthetics. Much quicker to process!

Setting aside the high cost of growing the constellation, I'm not sure they can just add more satellites even in theory. As I understand it Starlink has performance tradeoffs wrt to density of ground stations. Others on HN would probab
