AI is turning into a cult that's dividing us into those who support it and those who reject it. Arguments on both sides are flimsy, as no one really understands what it is. People see it as a black-box magic crystal.

I like the observation made in a recent post on HN. It made a point that consciousness revolves around unity: you perceive yourself as one entity, not many. However science today sees the world as a collection of small things interacting to

A comment above is right: what works for a 20yo college grad won't work for you. If I were you, I'd find my passion, an idea that I believe in, then find OSS projects on github that are aligned with my passion and start contributi

For some of us sex is like food: we know what it is, when to use it and when to stop. However for many others sex is like drugs: it overrides their self-control system and they become addicts. How do you make a law in this situation?

It's not really a revelation that war machine #1 has spent decades preparing for a war with war machine #2. That's the entire point of their existence: waging wars and preparing for wars.

Recognizing triangles isn't that impressive. What's the ceiling of complexity of patterns in data it can identify with is the real question. Give it a list of randomly generated xyz coords that fall on a geometric shape, or a list

To generalise this idea: if we look at a thousand points that more or less fill a triangle, we'll instantly recognize the shape. IMO, this simple example reveals what intelligence is really about. We spot the triangle because so much c
