My expectation would be that anything other than Microsoft offers higher risk. They will most likely be around for a long time, and they keep their products around for a long time, with proof of focussing on backwards compatibility. Is it w

I have a pi running to continuously collect data from my home, temperature, lights, gas usage, electricity usage, weather, etc. It runs Benthos to get all the data (MQTT + http), and stores everything in Postgres.

Price is a consequence, not a cause. If they make the price of the pi 50 times higher, it doesn't mean it no longer needs active cooling. I'm interested in knowing what the technical differences are that impact the cooling, and i

Yes, but what technical aspect explains the difference, they’re both based on energy efficient arm technology. TDP for the cortex is lower I think? Is it the silicon size? Cortex is used in fanless phones.

Why does a pi 5 with no enclosure need active cooling, whereas a MacBook Air doesn’t?

I recently purchased an Alice format ergonomic keyboard, the keychron k15 pro [1]. It has a split design, but otherwise it’s totally flat. How much of an improvement do you think a more ergonomically shaped keyboard l8ke a kinesis makes? [1

One alternative way I’ve been testing recently: load the entire csv file into a single row column in Postgres, and the use a view to parse it into lines and values. Then cache the result with a materialized view. 16mb, 500k rows (formula 1

I don’t think screen size is the limiting factor when editing, but the lack of a convenient keyboard. I’ve edited quite large texts with a Bluetooth keyboard connected to my phone. Currently have a Nuphy air 75 and keychron k15 pro, small s

Seems like a lot of what fauna does by storing documents isn’t really new, oracle, Postgres and others have provided this for a long time. I was really surprised by the performance of json queries [1], opens the doors to using Postgres as a

That’s what I have my iPad for: attach it to an external monitor, add keyboard and mouse and you have something that works really well for 90% of the use cases. It’s not well suited for programming, unless you’re the type of developer that

There's really no need to limit yourself to bulletpoints in PPT. Powerpoint offers so many other ways of illustrating information. I really like powerpoint as it's one of the simplest tools to do visual animated story telling.

San Francisco tech salaries are not representative for the entire US tech industry. And on top of that, San Francisco salaries drive up housing prices, so i'm not sure if working in SF results in a higher discretionary income.

The problem is that it's a location supply problem, rather than a housing supply problem. People all want to live in the same locations, that are already full of houses.

Instead of storing your data grouped by record, column databases store data grouped by column. This means that if your query is only interested in one or a few columns but from a large number of records , e.g. to aggregate it to calculate
