I agree that it's a potentially large problem, though I'd bet it's a systematic under-representation which would draw roughly the same conclusion, albeit at a higher overall rate.

I think you're bringing a lot of false assumptions into your argument. It's definitely not in my interest for the founders I've invested in to have bad work-life balances. It's not in my interest because I like them and

I think you're absolutely right. Same rule for blogging as for conferences - if you're writing for your customers or users, then that's good. I've yet to see a case where writing posts about running a startup falls into

Why? I actually think I have a pretty good work-life balance, though admittedly I've had times where that wasn't true.

It would be hard to overemphasize the importance of work-life balance. It's equally hard, though, to say what it is, because it's different for every person. I think you just need to keep it in mind and make sure you're doing

Having loved ones outside of work and understanding where work fits into your life overall is a whole different thing. Super important think about and understand, but out of the scope of what I was trying to say in this post.

That's where we start slipping into the philosophical aspect of the conversation. I don't know that a computer will ever be as good at discerning meaning from our communication as we are - partly because a lot of the meaning is b

I hope you're right, and that's what I'm getting at with "something on the table." Right now, the pace of storage is increasing so much faster than the algorithms to infer meaning.

See Paul's comment above - not really sure why this is absurd. The vast majority of venture returns are in the extreme long tail outcomes.

Timing for laughs are tricky. You need to wait long enough such that you don't cut off the laughter, but cut in soon enough that there isn't an awkward pause.

In part, it depends on what you're trying to accomplish. If you're doing a UX review or feature demonstration, then screenshots might be ok. In most other situations, screenshots are hugely distracting. They force your audience to

The requests change depending on what you need. You may need help hiring or with a key introduction. Whatever it is, you need to ask in order to get it. The "asks" are the requests.

Thanks! But that's exactly the point. Sending the updates when things are going badly is hugely important. That's when you may need help the most. I think having the toughness to hit send in those situations is a real mark of bein

I hear you, but most of the literature that I've seen is about specific tactics for getting the most favorable outcome. That's an important next step, but a lot of founders I meet don't even have the foundation.

You can't really have growth without a product, but like PG said in the top comment, that's not a reason not to apply to YC. You can probably still assess demand - hopefully because you yourself want what you are building. That&#x

You can definitely write in provisions that would prevent the increased preference, but I don't believe those terms are standard (and I can imagine an investor fighting them quite a bit). As for the SAFE, you're right that it has

Hey joey - Overall that's the point I'm making. What I'd say, though, is that trying to deceive players is a bad strategy over the long run despite what might seem like short term benefit.
