Tangent, but for all we whinge about flat UIs and pine for the bezelled good old days, that colour picker from the oldest good old days is really bloody flat! https://www.engineersneedart.com/blog/almostfired/HSL_R

I have a habit of doing this for data processing code (python, polars). For other code it's an absolute stink and i agree. But for data transforms... I've seen the alternative, a neatly abstracted in-house library of abstracted co

This is exactly right. There is no mechanism for the user to specify a per-screen text DPI in X11. (Or maybe there secretly is, and i should wait for the author to show us?)

I think the yaml / HCL and package system overlap.. I wouldnt so much go HCL as something like JSONnet, Pkl, Dhall, or even (inspiration not recommendation) Nix - we need something that allows a schema for powering an LSP, with enough

Apple could easily have ensured screens across their whole ecosystem had a specific subpixel alignment - yet they still nixed the feature.

There is pretty strong precedent for this design over in .NET land - if it was awful or notably inferior to `defer` I'm sure the Chrome engineering team would have taken notice.

Great to read - where are we up to with regards to the long laundry list that voice control software like Talon needs? It's interesting - if you're going to allow third-party a11y software to control your PC, you need a 'make

Really nice write-up, thanks. The issues you raise with complex typing are really nicely set out. It's such a trade-off, and you're absolutely write to claim that sometimes, simplicity trumps perfection.

My thoughts as well.. Libraries where the only reason to exist is 'hide this other complex library in the cupboard so you don't have to learn it' almost never achieve that goal, and are generally harmful to net complexity imh
