Don't give your current comp, and make it clear you're happy to walk away if they don't hit the number you have in mind (Ideally, you would actually be happy to walk away). NB: It helps enormously to have competing offers.

To think the two are comparable requires a complete lack of perspective. The scale and degree of poverty in China now, let alone 20 years ago, are just a tad bit worse than trouble finding jobs and long commute.

As someone who's written a lot of scheduling code (seriously, a lot), I'm sooooo on board. Time zones? Not really all that big of a deal and pretty much a solved problem. Daylight saving time, on the other hand, is the spawn of sa

While I understand (and agree with) the sentiment, I'm not sure it's 100% true. $50 million might be in the range where complicated tax minimization maneuvers start to become tenable, and you won't get help doing that from a

Can we please stop using early 2000s "txtspeak" to signal text conversations? Does anyone still write "ppl" or "to" => "2" in the era of autocorrect?

Using Facebook friendships as the connection metric like the link does, I think the vast majority of the tech industry in SF is within two or three degrees. (I've got mutual "friends" with the guy.)

Yay! I have an irrational love of this sort of thing; I enjoy the reinforcement of the idea that functions are just another kind of value. It seems like there really aren't that many languages with this symmetry (most lisps, JS/CS

If I understand correctly, it's a nice literal syntax for a vector/set hybrid data structure? If you wanted, you could get pretty close in ruby with only a sprinkle of ill-advised metaprogramming. > junc{5|4} + 1 any(

Have you spent any time teaching unmotivated students? Yes, ideally, every student would be motivated to learn for its own sake, but for an individual say, 8th grade, teacher to get a class of kids to that point is an enormous task. And yes

My gut response was, I think, a less rigorous version of this: Humans care about tasks our own brains are good at. If NNs are in fact decent approximations of the way our brains work, then it makes sense they will be anomalously effective o
