The funny thing is that I don't believe there is a "blockchain lobby" that is driving hype similar to bitcoin and other fads, that would at least make it more compressible. In fact it is not clear who benefits if it gets &quo

A bit of contentious point but I want to distinguish between bitcoin blockchain and blockchain tech. Even as a bitcion skeptic, its market cap went from $0 to $1T and you can't argue with that. But circa 2012 people started marketing b

I agree with this sentiment, I am not calling it useless. In fact I think it makes perfect sense as an "experimentalist technology", it is just the disproportionate attention it is getting by serious people over a long period of t

I do agree that tamper proof log is very useful, but I don't believe that it is something you can't achieve using traditional database tech. I have a question for you that can short-circuit our discussion. You claim that the value

True, but there is a long list of "smart" intellectuals/academics/investors who are believers in the space, which is where "am I going insane?" part comes in.

I remember two partners from Andreessen Horowitz gave a presentation to a group of investors and journalists around 2015, where they had a slide with literally the title "This time is different". I thought to myself this will not

This is correct which is why the Implicit Value Theorem is heavily under appreciated by newcomers, since it is saying roughly that "Locally, calculus = linear algebra" meaning at a certain scale all equations is linear algebra.

Paying off debt is usually good financial advice, but it is arguably the wrong thing to do if you expect higher and higher inflation (which you mentioned is your expectation). If you expect inflation to keep increasing, then one of the fina

Know the risks though: when inflation increases very fast, the Feds might end up having to respond with a shock, and usually real estates are the first to respond to this shock by losing 5-10%.

A major difference with 2009 imo (actually which you alluded to) is inflation expectations going up or inflation getting “embedded” in public’s psychology. That means people start factoring it into their decision most importantly salary neg

This is very common for tech stock, not a YC problem. Even Tesla was barely profitable until very recently, while Amazon spent the first 20 years of its existence barely breaking even.

Anyone wants to try and make an educated guess how much YC's market cap would be worth if it was trading on the stock market (similar to Berkshire Hathaway)? My estimate would be something like 25-30B.
