I remember reading about this filmmaker in a previous NYT article. It bothers me immeasurably that this sort of harassment (is there any other way to describe it?) happens to people simply because they are trying to shed light on things the

I couldn't have said it better myself. The problem with programs like these is that it's almost impossible to roll them back. They are like a snowball: small at the very beginning, growing larger over time, until at the end they b

Based on the various reports of issues with iCloud losing data, I think 1Password is safe. If Apple took the time to make iCloud more robust, useful and transparent it could definitely be a killer feature.

I have no insight into this, but I suspect the ads in the sidebar bring in more revenue than you might imagine. Most of the bandwidth requirements will be handled by the CDN, keeping down AWS traffic costs. CDN pricing is almost certainly l

Sickbeard + SABnzbd has been my go-to combination for months now. Sickbeard is regularly updated, and the integration between the two requires a small amount of initial configuration. From there, just make sure the 2 daemons are running and

With the upcoming release of Pg 9.3, I've been reading a lot more posts and articles about the FDW (foreign data wrapper) capabilities. I had not considered all the things FDW can do, but I'm getting more and more excited the further I get

Features like pg_stat_statements are a major reason why I love Postgres. The dev team makes sure the foundations are rock solid, and then start pouring on the features. If only $work used Postgres...

Most likely, Five Guys would have refused your offer because their lawyers wouldn't want to deal with the inevitable lawsuits from Red Robin. That's not to say that other, smaller players might not have taken the risk. But good on ya for ma

You've hit the nail on the head. Every website these days has widgets, for lack of a better word, that are reused all over the place. Anything we can do to make it easier to package up those widgets so I can drop them in place on a new html

I don't have nearly enough time to keep up on all the latest developments with HTML5, but from what I've read Web Components will be a huge life saver for anyone who works on web front ends. I've been thinking this weekend about how I might

Agreed, the novels are so much richer than the TV show. The level of detail that Mr. Martin put into the world continually blows my mind! I watched seasons 1 & 2 before I started reading the books, and now I'm more interested in finishi

Sounds like a fun project, and a massive win for Netflix too once they get more of these machines in end ISP's. The thing that caught my eye was the massive difference between Rev C & D hardware. They went from 36 x 4TB to 14 x 960GB dr

From what I've read, at least part of the problem is that the SQL standards are very murky and/or contradictory on the definiton of UPSERT-like functionality. And since Pg likes to be standards compliant they have focused on other areas of

But isn't eliminating preventative care like shooting yourself in the foot? Or cutting off your nose to spite your face? My parents are in their 60's and definitely complain about the "system" and the entitlements people feel they deserve.
