This is being dense for no reason. 'Why is there poverty? ' means 'Why is there poverty [when there could not be]?', obviously. Same with every other question they pretend to be surprised by an inverse formulation of.

I didn't mean to imply I thought you were lying; I just don't think it's representative of the rate of that happening, so it's a bit weird to present it as, like, 'what can happen if you wear contacts'.

I'm quite sure that if any non-vanishingly-small percentage of people had issues with their contacts like that, they would not be ubiquitous like they are. edit: also wtf why do you know "many" people who've been to the

I used to ask people about this a lot because I was curious about a related hypothesis: that aphantasia correlated with being good at mental math. Specifically, people who can imagine images will often do math in their head by imagining doi

I have definitely gotten it back from intense meditation. I went to an intense meditation retreat which had us meditating all day (a vipassana 10 day course). For unrelated reasons I left after a few days, but my aphantasia was replaced wit

I'm not talking about the notion of enumerable sets. I'm talking about whether a type explicit enumerates its members (like A = B | C or A = [] | [A]) or whether it is a contract which does not know how many members it has (like a

As a predicate Russell's paradox translates to an infinite loop in programming, not an impossibility. And yes, you get in trouble if you define a set from an arbitrary predicate, but a type is not (necessarily) a set: a type can be a

I think you've misunderstood me. If the predicate types are enumerable then they're not predicate types, they're enumerated types. And if the enumeration turns out to be infinite then you get the algebra of infinite cardinals

Here's a thought I have had cached in my head from a long time ago. Ignore me if this is obvious or dumb; I don't know anything about type theory really. There are basically two varieties of types: predicate types and enumerated t

I'm not sure that's quite the right perspective. It's not a coincidence that entropy increases over time; the increase in entropy seems to be very fundamental to the way physics goes. I prefer the interpretation "physi

Well it's part of math, which physics is already based on. Whereas metaphysics is, imo, "stuff that's made up and doesn't matter". Probably not the most standard take.

There's a good case to be made that the information-theoretic definition of entropy is the most fundamental one, and the version that shows up in physics is just that concept as applied to physics.
