What is the level of acceptance for (a) post-money option pools and (b) investors paying their legal fees amongst firms versus enlightened angels? I know Spark Capital publicly adopted (b). If I asked for these terms from a firm today, woul

"immigration" in this country....[is] destructive, poisoning, and exploitative all around for everyone else. GP didn't single out immigrants who come here on short-term visas, but even if he had, I came here on a short term visa, and so d

I am an immigrant, and coming here was constructive, sustaining and a very positive thing for me. I got a graduate degree here, and then started a startup that employs several people, enables our users to to access transportation much more

I think the NSA deserves to waste time monitoring comments from "suspiciously" nicknamed users if that's what they are doing, because surely the real taliban would be posting comments under their own name, on hacker news :)

I think YC has reached a point where anything PG says is likely to be interpreted in the worst possible light. That's unfortunate, because YC really doesn't have a type. I don't think there was a single Zuckerberg clone in our batch[1], a l

There is a huge difference between "smartest person in the room" and "best in the room at platform X". I'd be curious to see if the author is making the former claim or the latter. The reality is that any "lead" role at a startup requires y

I'll assume you are not intentionally mis-stating my argument. I separated Zuckerberg's strengths into two parts: (1) savvy and (2) knowledge of how investors operate. (1) is intrinsic or learned through experience and nothing external in t

Facebook's leverage was growth, not information asymmetry. Zuckerberg's personal strengths are that he is savvy, and he had knowledge gleaned from Sean Parker et al. If anything YCombinator and others help make acquiring that knowledge easi

You are right - Indian newspapers usually refer to it only when it is at least tangentially relevant - eg. usually they'll refer to some politician's caste. I consider this to be just as bad because it continues to put caste front and cente

"Brahmin"!? His caste is relevant, how, exactly? Only a British (or worse, Indian) newspaper would find the necessity to point out the caste of some person being tried by a public mob based on things heard on a police scanner.

Definitely, although it's not clear that ride sharing will increase traffic for sure. Cabs and Ridesharing are essentially car multiplexing. Absent an on-demand ride, most people would drive into the city, and then park there.

Exactly. A majority of taxi drivers do not own medallions. But decades of being on a "wait list" for the right to buy one and FUD by taxi companies causes a lot of them to dislike ride sharing, when, in reality, it's a huge net win for the

Instacart's challenge is that unlike an on-demand private car, which has no "set" price, groceries from a specific store have a price the store sets. So the markup is more obvious to the user. Since it seems like you (and probably many othe
