The opaque return types are, however, only available in Swift 5.1 and later, which means that the API will have to be different and not directly compatible with the Swift UI.

It's actually a major feature that comes in very handy if you live in a cold place.

It's not against ToS to run VMs with Windows in them. It's also fine to virtualize a copy of macOS on an original hardware, but it hardly does anything for gaming as there is still no GPU acceleration available for macOS guests.

App Thinning works just as well without bitcode. It’s just a process of removing unneeded architecture slices and resource variants from a downloadable app.

I don't know, actually. Should the state other that what the task (or sub-task) can observe matter for it to function? Where would be the boundary, as there are lots of things happening simultaneously in a computer, and the global stat

There is no dichotomy here, it's perfectly fine to use imperative code where it fits better. I would not agree that using any particular technology makes code less clear. Also, I'm not sure how protocol interfaces, callback-based

The state is there, of course. The goal here is to minimize the amount of state the code has access to at any particular time. Functional purity is not the goal, it's just one way to reduce state.

More reactive usually means less global state, which is generally for the better. It also encourages functional purity where possible. Previously (briefly) in iOS/macOS there was an attempt to move to closure-based APIs, which led to u

While taxes are a sane and common way for a government to make money, there are countries where there is either no corporate tax at all, or only some industries are taxed. Additionally, there are places where corporations do pay taxes, but

Apple removed the ability of app developers to use the (somewhat) reliable way to deliver events to apps without alerting the user. There’s API that lets an app to decrypt visible notifications, but it’s incredibly limited (it will crash if

Maybe X11 just doesn’t have the right abstractions. As an example, to this day iOS uses mostly server-side rendering with API basically unchanged for 10 years. Fonts are rendered client-side, but compositing and animations are done out of p

WhatsApp does secure group messages with end to end encryption, but what good is encryption in a public protests group where everyone can see your phone number?

This feature leaks metadata. It's just an implementation detail, I'm sure the devs are not happy about it and probably are researching other ways to provide cross-device experience.

MacOS as a guest is tricky. GUI is pretty much unusable without a GPU attached, and it's considered a potential vulnerability by Qubes maintainers.

Can clean-electric cars and planes help with this? A world-wide hyperloop network, perhaps? Not sure if "just add more taxes" is the solution to everything.

I really like the idea of Signal and try to use it as much as I can, but man it’s an ugly app. There must be a way to design the UI a bit better without compromising security and privacy.

I actually think that there might be something to it. The current keyboards already have a small key travel. A solid-state keyboard with “taptic” feedback from individual keys could feel ok.
