Have you looked at old books in the google books archive? You quite frequently find pages where the page-turning robot has screwed up, with results like distortion, lack of focus, weird smearing effects as the page was still moving when the

Apple regularly does acquisitions (like, multiple per year), so I guess it's not impossible - but they seem to usually be much smaller companies which presumably assimilate. Their last big one[1] seems to have been the purchase of I

It depends on the paper. Some takeaways round here seem to come in very robust paper bags, although takeaway is perhaps not as challenging as a full bag of groceries.

Yeah, it's extremely hard to see what's going on, or predict what results the different moves might have.

It might be good news in that it's fairer. But in the current situation, it might have been better news for the opposition to have made the usual concession to the ultra-orthodox and allied with them to kick the ultranationalists out o

My apologies, I misread your comment. I think it's safe to say that the number of animals killed by pet cats is disputed. It will also be quite different in different places; my figures come from my area. The situation is also very dif

[Edit: I had misread the above comment, which is not saying 'per year'] While cats do indeed kill wildlife, I suspect that "thousands of animals per year" is a big exaggeration even for ferals. It might be true if their

Switches don't need to change anything to support QUIC, precisely because it uses UDP. So, the deployment of QUIC doesn't involve any technical changes that would enable a version of QUIC that worked directly over IP. It's

I don't know where I read this, but ISTR that one of the motivations of the (failed) JTRS military radio consolidation project was that US infantry were carrying around insane amounts of weight, partly in batteries for various radios.

I should perhaps have said "works round" rather than fixes - yes, it has to run over UDP but the quic team had an explicit goal of not allowing the network to interfere further : see sec 3.3 and 7.5 of https://dl.acm.or

Actually, the mistake in IP was in not encrypting the next layer, so that networks can block transport protocol innovation by filtering anything other than TCP and UDP. This is the mistake that quic has fixed.

One missing from your list is real-time media. Retransmission, or even just buffering for reordering, adds latency so it's better to take the hit of a loss with error correction or packet-loss-concealment

It could be, but I've not seen an approach to therapy that advocates tweaking like that. Most aim to identify a form of words that "should work" and then advocate persisting "until it works".
