I don't think he's claiming that it's causally a function of service time (although this can be the case if demand is elastic). Rather, utilisation is calculated from service time and arrival rate, and they're just sta

Solid state battery rules out some flammability failure modes, but introduces one: dendrite growth, creating a short. They need to prove that they've eliminated that before we can call it safe.

These days you can make anything have a readonly rootfs by using overlayfs. Just wipe your overlay partition to do a factory reset.

If you're on enterprise, you can use the Legal Discovery feature (vault) instead - it worked at my previous employer when all the HR files mysteriously vanished. I think they maintain it properly because otherwise they might get summon

That's interesting. From an English perspective katakana (a system for writing words foreign to Japan, which can't write English very well) seems broken, but I guess from what you say that it's probably effective for most lan

The business model is journalism was advertising and it translated fine to the web. The problem is, it turned out that advertising didn't need journalism. Google ate the newspapers' lunch.

If you mean for storage, real time codecs are actually pretty inefficient for that use case because they don't get much use of temporal redundancy. Although I'm not actually aware of a non-real time audio codec specialised for voi

This is cool. I wonder how you ensure that your mould is made from food-safe materials. Presumably gratings are usually just cut glass, so that should be okay? They are not part of the usual food-safe supply chain, though. I guess to would

The article wonders if the Hebridean climate was good for a man suffering from tuberculosis - there may have been better places, but London would have been much worse at the time due to domestic use of coal for fuel. Eg, see https:/&

A lot of this is due to the failure of people's privacy instincts. People do have a strong instinctive desire for privacy, but only against other identifiable people. When private data are revealed to people they know or can be conne

When another app did this (horrible unity ads which also blasted audio in what was otherwise a silent app) I developed a reflex of closing and reopening it. Eventually they went away, so I expect that was most people's response.

At least some actors do do the initial memorization by repetition, which also tells us something about memory: the process is to try to recall lines 1-10, then repeat with lines 2-11, then 3-12 etc. At each step it may be necessary to look

Milk is mainly water as I'm sure you know. If you think it's useful to know what mixtures won't be held to 100 degrees, perhaps you could contribute some information to that effect - as opposed to just snark

Not really, since milk contains water the max temperature you can reach is 100 degrees (given it has a path to atmospheric pressure). So the bottom can only burn if all the water boils off.
