Very cool to read an article about windows 95 still being used in production - a nice contrast to the infinite AI hype cycle over everything. Tech may move fast in flashy areas but not in the more "boring" parts of the industry.

Hi HN, I wanted to share decomp.dev - a nifty site that tracks video game decompilation efforts, mostly games from from the early 2000s. I find it very fun to look at older c/c++ code from video games I used play, but also how the code

Really the only thing that will move this is market share. With Claude Code and other tools making it super easy to interact with a computer, and Microsoft repeatedly shooting themselves in the foot adding AI everywhere to Windows 11, I

Hi there, creator of Wikitok here! Very happy to hear that my random little project inspired you :) The attention to detail in the UI is good - I'm so over every default AI generated UI being rounded corners, centered divs, blue and pu

Manim is a python library created by Grant Sanderson to create really great math animations - if you've seen his YouTube channel 3Blue1Brown, he built Manim specifically with that in mind. There's two versions, the version on his

Just thought I should make HN aware of this - it seems the original discord is gone, as well as the community repo.

I can talk about my own experiences. About a year and half ago I dropped everything to get into tech, a couple years out from completing my civil engineering degree because I hated it. I worked very intensely day in day out building many pr

You really need to add a toggle for the effects, it makes it hard to read.

What are you using to easily share the conversation as its own webpage? Very nice and tidy.

This time it actually is different. HN might not think so, but HN is really skewed towards more senior devs, so I think they're out of touch with what new grads are going through. It's awful.

You're missing what I'm saying. I'm poking fun at devs that think AGI will magically solve all our problems - they have no idea just how insanely complicated physical infrastructure is.

It's amusing to me watching devs talk about the breakneck pace of AI and LLMS, AGI all that sorts of stuff, what that wild future will give us - when there are far, far more difficult problems that lie directly in front of us, mainly g

Not gonna lie - I read this line > If you are running another distro then you can run sudo ./install.sh, but you need to manually install the dependencies, as described below. And then I just skimmed the rest, because I assumed it w

Well, if they suddenly changed the license, we'd get a new Redis --> Valkey situation. Or even more recently, look at minio no longer maintaining their core open source project!
